The Bears’ 2027 class got a big boost today with the commitment of the nation’s top-rated junior college prospect, Alius Mayo today at Lincoln High School in Stockton where he played as a prep.
At Lincoln, Mayo received interest from Lincoln Fresno State, Sacramento State, Portland State and UC Davis before opting to play at the JC level.
The 6’4, 190lb Modesto Junior College DB combines excellent size and athleticism with a 44” vertical and a 3.6 GPA. Named First Team All-Conference, Mayo will hit the ground running, coming in as an early entry spring enrollee in January 2027 in time for spring practice.
In 11 games, Mayo totaled 30 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception, and five pass breakups as one of the few freshman starters on a team dominated by sophomores. Modesto finished 9-3 and lost to CCSM in the Northern California Football Conference championship game.
The Bears beat out Alabama, who was pushing hard, along with Louisville and Arizona State for the soph’s commitment. LSU and Mississippee State were also in the running recently.
