Cal Opens Spring Practice With High Expectations

It may have only been the first day of spring practice, but the Cal football team entered Memorial Stadium Monday afternoon with laser focus and fierce intensity.

After an up-and-down 5-7 season in 2017, the mantra for the Golden Bears this year is simple: Take the next step.

"Where we finished last year simply isn't good enough," said head coach Justin Wilcox, now entering his second season in Berkeley. "We've got to get better across the board, at every position.
