Coleman Announces His Intention to Transfer
Two seasons after his arrival from Lawson State CC in Georgia, Cal junior combo guard Don Coleman announced his intention to transfer from Cal, tweeting:
"After careful consideration and conversations with my loved ones, I believe it is in my best interest to transfer from Cal. This is one of the toughest decisions of my life but everything happens for a reason.
"These two years here have been great and I've learned and grown as a man with this opportunity to play at a high level.
"I'd like to thank my teammates for going hard with me every day and pushing me to my full potential, as well as the coaches -both Coach Martin and Coach Jones' staffs- for believing in me and giving me this opportunity to play at a unique university.
"Last, thank you all Cal fans for your love and support during my time here. It's bittersweet but I will always be a Bear at heart. I am very excited for a fresh start with a new opportunity to play the game that I love. I'm looking forward to moving closer to home and continuing to work and get better at my next destination!"
Coleman started off the season on fire, carrying the Bears in early contests with back-to-back 30+ point games but wore down and tailed off as the season progressed.
Counted on for big minutes with a young and depleted squad, Coleman averaged 31 minutes a game after averaging just 11 per game as a sophomore. The junior saw his points per game jump from 4.6 to 14.2 but also saw his shooting percentage drop from 37.5 to 32.8 as he sometimes forced the action when the team got down.
Coleman will have two years to play one season upon his transfer.
