Cal Hoops Makes Big Addition With Grace

The Bears added veteran assistant David Grace to fill the coaching vacancy with the departure of Tim O'Toole for Pitt.

Most recently with UCLA for the past the past five seasons, Grace is a 12-year NCAA assistant coach veteran, getting his start for a season with Sac State before moving to USF for a season and five seasons at Oregon State before working with the Bruins.

Known as a strong recruiter, Grace has been largely responsible for bringing in talented players like Pac-10 leading scorer Roberto Nelson, Gunther Cunningham, Lonzo Ball, TJ Leaf, Travis Wear and many other talented players.

Grace got his start in coaching AAU ball in 1997 in Virginia while stationed there with the Air Force during part of his 20-year career in the military. He also coached with Compton Magic and Arizona Magic and has great ties to the AAU community.

Grace's eventual hiring will round out the Bears' staff after the Bears added veteran head coach Marty Wilson after his departure from Pepperdine. Grace and Wilson join returning assistant coach Chris Walker on the bench with head coach Wyking Jones.
