Maybe I'm just becoming a grouch, but I do not find any of their concept helmets for Cal particularly appealing. What are your thoughts, OP?

EDIT: I forced to choose, I would go with the 7th option.

As stated in the article, it was done by a guy and his sons so if it looks like it was done by kids, it was. They just photoshopped some random Cal logos (from Tshirts) on to helmets for most of them, or did some random "look a bear" crap. They're pretty terrible lol

I feel the same way. Uninspiring would be an understatement. Having been a little kid in the 70s, I had the opportunity to see Joe Roth play, and as any Cal fan knows, he was a special person and a special player. I love the fact that one way Cal honors him is with the throwback unis at the annual Joe Roth game. I think those are the coolest unis Cal has ever fielded. I'd prefer that Cal use those as their regular unis, with a permanent number 12 patch on every player's uniform so that they continue as a Roth tribute but are seen more often. One of the coolest things about those unis was that they made the players look faster. Wesley walker was almost a blur running down the field. The current generation of players are understandably used to a more modern look, and this might not appeal to them. I'd still love to see it though

I thought this was the best of the bunch which isn't saying much.

I also had the chance to see Joe Roth play. And think he was among Cal's best QB's. Also his struggle against illness was heroic.
BUT I hated the Cal helmets and uniforms of his day.
The Blue was IMO a wishy-washy blue (reminded me of SJS). The "C" in a circle reminded me of any other non-descript team whose name began with "C".
I loved it when (1) uniforms got back to Dark Blue and gold (or dark yellow) (2) helmet got back to dark blue and (3) script Cal was added to the helmet.

In short the Joe Roth era uni's always seem to be like the "New Coke" experiment. It was great when we went back to classic Coke.

Well at least concept #5 removes the confusion that many non-Cal fans have. It uses the name "Berkeley" on the helmet. But I still prefer "Cal".

I'd like to see us do more of the type of things the baseball team does with their logos (ie. the big C) and I'd like to see a bear on the helmet but nothing cartoonish and the only helmet I liked at all was the #3 option but it's too busy, as are most of them. I don't mind introducing brown or bronze into our color scheme but I'm probably the only that likes that idea. I'm also happy we bring back the Roth/White era unis every year.

I love the bear claw with Cal and have like that glossy gold bear claw treatment...

The walking-bear silhouette has always been my favorite logo on a hat or tee shirt. I like it on a helmet, too.

Hands down. Large, shiny gold paw with blue script CAL in the middle. Add to this the Kapp/Rivera era unis, with black shoes and white socks. Looks fast while standing still.
