Good one.

Anyway, I wish him success with his new team.

He took a difficult path to the Hall of Fame, first it was bitter spurned SC fans (who invented the nickname), then Cal fans who often turn on our star recruits/best players, then Eagles management and Philly fans who once famously booed and threw snow balls and beer bottles at Santa Claus...

I'm always amused when WRs are accused of being selfish. It is not basketball. They just catch the ball when it is thrown to them.

Jahvid Best and Desean Jackson were the two most exciting Cal players in my lifetime. I wish we had 3 Desean Jackson's last year, this year and every year.

Which Hall of Fame?

The Rams needed an over-the-top threat, but I don't know if DeSean is young enough or durable enough to provide that for them in the playoffs. He is 35 this season and played 8 games over the last two seasons (3 in '19 & 5 in '20).

Which Hall of Fame?

NFL, and to be clear when I say difficult path to the Hall of Fame that does not mean he will reach the destination. Just that he is in the discussion and he probably would have had a better chance of reaching it if he had taken another path. But google his name and hall of fame and you can read the articles arguing that he should be in.

His bona fides are: Most TDS over 60 yards in NFL history and longest average distance per TD in NFL history (45 yards) with no one in the last 30 years with 50 or more TDS coming within 10 yards of that average.

Yep, but I really wish we could have seen Rodgers to DeSean with Marshawn as the starting RB in 2005. That team would have set records.

At least Desean on the Rams gives me a reason to root for them after trading, and worse, publicly denigrating, Goff.

He was their third round draft choice in '93. He played for the Rams for one season (appearing in five games).

Being past tense, your wording "took a difficult path to the Hall of Fame" implied that the task has been successfully completed.

Racist play on his name. You wouldn't say that about the countless number of white players who have left the program for self-interested reasons.

What about Hawkins tripping untouched at the 5? Or Longshore's three 4th quarter(?) interceptions? Why is Desean the scapegoat for our loss that day? Besides, we had another chance at the Rose Bowl the following week against USC.

Desean left for the NFL after 3 years. That is normal. No one considers that selfish. Marshawn and Jahvid left early too. Rodgers after two years. Desean came back to Cal multiple times, leading the student section in cheers. He is a Cal guy.

Desean's the most electrifying player i've ever seen at Cal. Moreso than even Jahvid or Deltha. The funniest story I heard about Desean back during the days was how Tedford once 'punished' him by making him memorize all of his teammate's name. LOL. Honestly that's more of an indictment on Tedford than Desean.

I was always puzzled how DeSean was not the #1 all-purpose all-use player while on campus, in NCAA video games I had him returning kicks, punts, #1 WR of course, and did a ton of motion plays to give him handoffs in the backfield, that kind of speed comes around college football a few times a decade (and once in a generation at Berkeley) and Tedford did not give him his proper due in the offense.

The move to spread in 2006 was ill-timed given our personnel. We should have been power running with Lynch mixed in with play-action Longshore to the TEs or Jackson long. Jackson on the fly-sweep or on a reverse off a Marshawn sweep. In 2007 Lonshore's injury, then his feud with Jackson when Jackson lobbied for Riley to be let out of the doghouse, then Jackson's injury, limited his production. In 2005, it was Ayoob.

Mixon returned punts in 2005. Jackson never returned KOs.

Basically three years with Jackson greatly underutilized.

In his three years at Cal, Marshawn averaged 13.2 carries per game. In his two seasons at Cal, Rodgers threw 25.6 times per game. Three of the greatest offensive players of the last 20 years but for multiple reasons we were not able to get the most of them while they were here.

Whenever anybody brings up academic standards, I'm very glad that we gave Russell White the chance to discover he had dyslexia and to become a college graduate.
Could not agree more...

Russell White is the poster guy for what is right about college athletics in general and, more specifically, Cal.

He came to Cal as an athlete and left Cal as a scholar.

Of all the guys who have worn the Blue and Gold since I started following the program in 1956, White is the one footballer who I am damn proud to say that I went to the same school as him.

I agree with both of you. I am proud to say I attended Cal while Russell White was there. I remember reading about him in the papers in LA never thinking he'd give Cal a second thought. But Snyder really built a great program and was able to give RW a shot and an opportunity to learn in the classroom. Class act for both RW and Coach Snyder.

Anyways, I'll always be proud of DeSean, especially because he played a key role in the greatest Cal football season of the past quarter-century.

I remember bumping into Russell White in line when they were having a free screening of Jacob's Ladder at Wheeler. Needless to say, a mob formed for the free film, and they called off the film because people started getting really agitated. F-ing line cutters.

It would've been cool seeing DeSean play with Goff given DeSean's past connection with Goff when he was at Cal.

just an fyi, it was reported yesterday DJ got 4.5M, and with incentives it climbs above 6.25M. Reuben Frank at Y Sports says that's way too much citing his 23 catches last year and age 34. I don't know 'bout that, because when I look at his 18/19 Tampa Bucs highlights I see a guy who is still a killer threat, even 2 years removed.

LOL they overpaid. The headline to this Yahoo news article is: "You won't believe how much money the Rams paid DeSean"

Oh well...good for Desean.
