Did a post spring depth chart ever come out? I'd be interested to see where things stand at the moment.

I am curious as well and have not seen anything. I did not see the Spring game. Would anybody here mind sharing their prediction on the depth chart? I am mainly asking because I miss football.

I don't recall that a post spring depth chart is issues that is different than the spring depth chart. I suspect that the latest spring depth chart is the current depth chart until modifications are made in late summer.

College football programs in general post information for the media and the public mostly as a courtesy and they don't really make it a priority. Cal seems to me to be no different.

Roster information is kind of like national security information and is provided on a need to know basis. Cal and many other programs prefer that the public not know any more than is necessary because they don't want opposing teams to get an advantage in preparation for games.

Depending on the coaches and administration of the school at the time, these practices can becomes extreme to the point of paranoia or become rather relaxed. Or they can just be poorly organized and communicated due to lack of staff.

In any case, I am very familiar with the feeling of "jonesing" for a depth chart. But the level of my desperation has never had any effect on my ability to secure a depth chart when I wanted one.

From what I can tell, due to covid and the returning seniors, Cal should have excellent depth in most areas.

Cal should have particularly good depth at OL, RB and TE and decent depth at LB, DB and WR. The DL could be a concern, mainly because of the injury rate in the interior.

It's probably better for the coaches not to put out a post-spring depth chart in terms of player retention. Right now every player can imagine themselves to be higher on the depth chart than they really are.

If a sophomore or a junior who could contribute saw how deep they really were on the depth chart, they might want to transfer out, not thinking about how injuries and improvement can shake things up.

Gotta disagree BBB.

First of all, it good to see you post a comment here. I has been a long time since I saw your last one.

Good coaches are honest with their guys. They don't need to let a player know where he stands through a publicly disclosed depth chart because they have already informed the player where he fits in. OTOH, yes, there are coaches who are deceiving jerks who tell the player one thing when, in fact, the reality is the opposite and the player doesn't realize it until he sees a depth chart.

Given that Wilcox can be found in the first scenario, there would be no surprises when Cal does post their depth chart publicly.

Wow - this is a very well reasoned and thought out reply to the situation...

Are you sure you are on the right message board?

Hey 71B, I post from time to time over on the Insider board. Things are quieter there right now, so I came over here to get my football fix. I always enjoy reading your posts, wherever they are.

I agree Wilcox is an honest, straight up coach. Right now, after the spring scrimmage, the depth chart is not fixed and won't be fixed until late summer. I was just thinking that it would serve no purpose to put out a temporary one now when it could have a demoralizing effect.
