Question: What was QB Charlie Brewer's stat line from today's spring game at Utah. Brewer is a transfer from Baylor. He is the favorite to be the starting QB for the Utes.

Lol, one of those small sample sizes that can be made into whatever narrative someone wants to make it into.

Last year, 114 teams averaged 10+ yards an attempt (we were not one of them, averaging 9.7 to come in at #123).

On the other hand, only 6 teams averaged 10+ yards per completion, with Cal coming in #121 at 5.6.

Those were the days.

1st down: holding, 10 yard penalty
2nd down: Vedder 6 yard pass complete to Douglas
3rd down: Vedder 5 yard pass complete to Douglas or sack
4th down: punt

Not really. One completion was forty yards. That tells us the rest averaged 8 yards.

Regardless, 15-15 is pretty remarkable. No drops, no overthrows or passes in the dirt.

Obviously, since the defense is not permitted to sack the QB in spring games, no one is suggesting perfection will be a staple of his game during the season.

Those must be reversed. You can't average more per attempt than you do per completion.

I wasn't familiar with him but looking him up he had 4 solid years at Baylor. Definitely a super senior.

Question: Exactly how crappy was Utah's defense in their Spring game.

Just kidding, (sorta) 71. It just reminded me of the Spring before Holmoe's last season when the previously (and it turns out still) awful offense slaughtered the previously (and it turn out no longer) good defense, including something like a 70 yard touchdown run by the QB. Many people were stoked. Some of us were like "uh oh".

The thing about Spring games is you are always playing yourself. All positives and negatives balance each other out.

Answer: Slim to none.

Question: What are the odds Brewer ever takes the field against Cal?

(Yes this is an attempted reverse woof.)

I hope he does since the only way that can happen is if Utah and Cal play in the P12 title game. Otherwise, his eligibility will expire before Cal and Utah are scheduled to play again.

I absolutely thought of that scenario. What popped into my head was one year when Cal's D dominated the O during the spring. It was just a precursor to a season in which Cal's O was utterly abysmal.

In essence, I agree 100%......

A run up the middle for no gain or a false start penalty followed by same run play.

This feels like a throwing rocks at glass houses kind of thread.
