Cal is adding Lithuanian power forward Dominykas Daubaris, Bear Insider has learned, bringing a dynamic stretch four to pair with center Lee Dort in the frontcourt.
“Dominykas is one of the most promising young prospects out of Europe this season," Cal coach Mark Madsen said in a press release. "His combination of size and skill make him a threat both on the perimeter and inside offensively. He uses his high-level intuition and length to make an impact defensively. We cannot wait to add Dominykas to the Cal Family!"
At a long 6-foot-10, Daubaris enjoys shooting behind the arc and in pick-and-pop situations, while still developing his interior presence.
He was previously recruited by schools such as Wisconsin, Indiana, Cincinnati, Gonzaga, Purdue and BYU, especially after a strong showing in the 2025 FIBA U18 EuroBasket tournament, where he was fifth in offensive efficiency as a knock-down shooter.
Daubaris has turned down a spot in the States to continue playing professionally.
He comes to Berkeley with two seasons of experience with Zalgiris Kaunas of the Lithuanian National Basketball League, where he spent his first season at a lower level and the latest against true big-leaguers.
Daubaris is definitely a player with NBA potential.
Here is how the stretch four described his game with On3’s Evan Flood when considering Wisconsin in October.
“I can shoot the ball really well,” Daubaris said. “On defense, I can guard point guards to power forwards. I can move the ball really well … I like the pick n’ pops. That fits my game. I love to shoot 3’s.”
Madsen pulled a Tosh Lupoi and recently flew to Lithuania to secure Daubaris’ commitment; the admirable trip played a major role in Daubaris’s decision to join Cal.
On paper, Daubaris looks to slide into the power forward spot that John Camden held during the 2025 season, albeit with much more upside and eligibility.
Daubaris should fit in nicely at Cal, next to a true five in Dort.
“The most important thing is academics and performing well on the basketball court and developing,” Daubaris added to Flood in October. “Strength and conditioning, that first year, will be important for me too.”
