The reality is that the talent hasn't been there at the skill positions on offense.

Garbers is not a star QB. There hasn't been a lot of talent at WR or RB either compared to what I'm used to seeing at Cal let alone at Oregon or USC.

It's not that Wilcox can't coach offense. It's that he hasn't been able to recruit the players he needs.

I thought Garbers was a 4* recruit.
Maybe I am wrong.

Whatever he was out of high school, it is clear what he is now, which is an average to below average Pac-12 QB.

He finished 11th in the Pac-12 in QBR last year. He finished 6th in QBR the year before.

Maybe he can close out his career at Cal with an excellent year, but so far he hasn't been the type of QB that we'd hoped for.

He has competition now. Not saying he will be overtaken but Milner is someone Musgrave recruited so he must like him a lot.

It IS that Wilcox can't coach offense. This team will never have a good offense so long as he is the coach.

When are you guys going to stop making excuses for the fact that the two most important programs for the success of our athletic department are dogs?

If the offense is below conference-average again this fall, come back and say "I told you so." However, I'm predicting the offense will be pretty good.

Obviously, Wilcox's formula for success starts with defense, his specialty. But if he can't get the offense and special teams to play better this fall... yikes.

Recruiting seems to be on the uptick and it's either going to take another step forward, or slip back, based on this fall. So huge test coming up for the program Wilcox is trying to build.

Before season those national analysts looked like haters. Now they look like sunshine pumpers.

Before start of season: "no way Cal wins 5 games, that's way too low"

Now: "no way Cal wins 5 games, we'll be lucky to get to three"
