Finally got the lines for the go pick on someone your own size FCS games so a last minute adjustment.

Somehow I managed to go 5-4 last week, boosting my season total to 10-8. That should be enough for an eight minute long contract extension. Here's the link to last week, https://bearinsider.com/forums/2/topics/103658/replies As usual, for this week odds are for the home team, my "I'll have whatever he's drinking or smoking" picks in italics.

Sacto State @ Cal -24.5: Troy Taylor throws everything he's got at our Bears but it's not enough. Taking Cal to cover.

Stony Brook @ Rubber Duckies -41: Quackers will cover the spread in the 1st quarter.

Idaho @ River Rats -28: Rodents continue looking better than they really are but still cover.

Northern Arizona @ Mildcats -26.5: Enjoy those cupcakes while you can. Kittens cover.

Minnesota @ Colorado -2: Ralphie did some serious rumbling against Texas A&M. Expect another close game with the Buffs covering.

U$C @ Wazzoo +8.5: Neither team looking that good so far. But taking Toejams to bounce back from debacle against Furd and covering.

Arkansas State @ Mutts -16.5: Butt sniffers will probably win but can they score enough points to beat the spread? Going out on a limb and saying no.

Mormon Marauders @ San Diego State +7.5: After losing the Holy War Utes beat some sacred fear into Aztecs. Utah covers.

Furd @ Vanderbilt +11: Geek fight! Unfortunately Shaw can justify looking smug again. Furd covers.

Spawn of Satan @ BYU +3.5: Still on a high from winning the Holy War, BYU turns the Devils into an angelic chorus. BYU beats the spread.

Fresno State @ bRuins -11: Bulldogs will keep it close for a while but Song Stealers prevail and cover in the end.

And weather related: Tropical Storm Nicholas @ Houston Metro Area PK: It was a Bye in my town while Galveston once again wondered what idiot thought it was a great idea building a city on a sandbar in prime hurricane country.

Neither my usual website nor any others posted odds. That's usually the case with FCS vs. FBS games.

In the we'll pay you just to show up games:

Sacto State @ Cal: Rude homecoming for Troy Taylor
Stony Brook @ Rubber Duckies: Why was this game even scheduled?
Idaho @ River Rats: Rodents continue looking better than they really are.
Northern Arizona @ Mildcats: Enjoy those cupcakes while you can.

And weather related: Tropical Storm Nicholas @ Houston Metro Area PK: My town should be okay. Galveston once again wondering what idiot thought it was a great idea building a city on a sandbar in prime hurricane country.
Thanks for doing this Tex. Take care and stay safe!

4-5 last week and level for the season. Feeling very mediocre like ....?

Buffs cover (they seem to be decent team and at home)

Utah (SDSU has a weird home scheduling in Carson this season, losing some of the home benefit. Thinking odds makers build that into the spread. Utah's offense must have taken too many ice cream breaks in Provo, and went in into hypoglycemia, leaving the players sad, fatigued and depressed. Tough game to call since both teams are decent- going with Utah because the Pac is really good the year north of Tucson and south of Seattle.)

Arkansas State ( On paper Mutts should pound these guys, but on the field Mutts have issues. They win but don't cover. Would have never guessed I would make this pick before the season. Arkansas St. can score).

Furd covers. (I know SC make a treasure trove of mistakes, but Furd has a legit QB and defense. Welcome to Furd version 2 which passes and passes.)

BYU (ASU eats the ice cream and falls into hypoglycemia, leaving the Devils players sad, fatigued and depressed. This should be a good game. )

Bruins cover (I'm all in on the Pac (outside of ASU) with Bruins eventually wearing down a good FSU team)

USC vs WSU will address later as you never know what will come out of Heritage Hall for the remainder of the week.

Time to make a decision and going with USC on a bounce back.

Colorado 22-13--This game would have featured 2 of the better backs in the country until injuries took over. Minnesota's Ibrahim is OFY and Colorado's Broussard is banged up. Additionally the Colorado QB is OFY. But Colorado's D is for real and should limit the Minnesota O in a good battle.

Washington 34-13--This is a bad matchup for Arkansas St. despite the fact that Washington (0-2) is not exactly scaring anyone these days. Washington should be able to run at will and the strength of the ASU offense (passing) is the strength of the Washington D.

Utah 26-17--San Diego St. makes a habit of beating pac-12 teams and they are playing well. Utah just layed an egg against a team that beat Arizona by much less than SDS did. However, like Colorado, SDS has an injury issue at QB.

Furd 37-21--Furd discovered they have a QB, unfortunately for the rest of us. Furd has other problems but I don't see Vandy slowing down the Furd offense. Vandy is better than folks think, and will put up some points, but Furd covers.

ASU 30-20--I'm not a believer in BYU, even though they beat both Arizona and Utah. ASU was unimpressive beating UNLV last week but they are going to easily beat what I think is a ridiculously small spread. BYU has multiple injuries at WR.

UCLA 42-26--I am a believer in UCLA but they will be exposed at some point. You gotta stop the run to beat them. Fresno St. can't. But FSU has an offense and will score.

USC 38-27--Both teams have been disappointing and USC has a lot of injuries. They also have a ton of depth. But WSU QB is questionable and, despite that USC is playing on the road and are breaking in a new HC, I like the extreme talent disparity to win out here.

Continuing to help everybody else, assuming we're grading on a curve: 4-5 last week for 7-14 overall
Hope springs eternal, these are my picks:
Minnesota +2 over buffs:think both buffs and aggies are not that strong
U$C -8.5 will have their customary strong-game-after-coach-is-sacked-midseason.
Mutts -16.5 will pull something out of their butt somehow to win and cover
Furd -11 with assist to ESPN for forcing the home team to have the start time that favors the visitors
BYU +3.5 (and probably to win outright)
Fresno State +11 to cover those damn baby bears. Wish they'd win outright but that's a bit much...

Last week I went 3-5, making me 8-9 so far: I HATE this period: it's tough enough dealing with in conference teams, with out-of-conference teams adding whole new levels of complexity. But, one thing I still firmly believe in: it is tough for teams to cover large spreads, so, this week:

Sac State @ Cal. Sorry folks, but I'm not feeling very optimistic about the Bears. Cal wins of course, but fail to cover the spread, has be going with Sac State.

Stony Book @ Oregon: I'll make an exception to covering large spreads: Ducks to win & cover.

Idaho @ OSU: Beavers look to have a solid team, but I don't see them covering a 4 TD spread: Idaho.

Northern Arizona @ Arizona: Same as above, except Arizona is not a solid team: Northern Arizona.

Minnesota @ Colorado: I was surprised at how well the Buffs have been playing, so I'll be a PAC-12 homer and go with Colorado.

USC @ WSU: The Cougs once vaunted passing game is history. I like Max Borghi and his running game, but that won't be enough against the Trojans, even with home field advantage: USC.

Arkansas State @ Washington: Sooner or later the Huskies will pull out of their dive, and I think it begins here: Washington.

Utah @ SDS: Yes the Aztecs are good, but I think the Utes have enough juice to beat them and cover the spread.

Stanford @ Vanderbilt: Much as I loved the talk about how Stanford was going to fall flat on its face this season, I gotta admit Shaw has done a good job: Stanford to win and cover.

ASU @ BYU: This really should be the best game of the week to watch. Going with the PAC-12 team to win, just because I like Herm Edwards: ASU.

Fresno State @ UCLA: I expect the Bruins to easily cover.
