The sting of leaving SF has lessened over time, but the shame of choosing Santa Clara as their home endures.

Should have squibed the kickoff to waste some seconds. Would have won.
Squib kick could also result in a shorter field if it gets cut off early.GMP said:BadNewsBear1 said:

Maybe. Probably, perhaps. But it also would have changed how the Packers attacked. With fewer seconds, maybe they're more aggressive and they get down the field quicker. Once you change that, you have no idea what would have happened and can't say what would have happened.

OK.....should have squibed it down to the five and have it hit off the returner's knee, start the clock, run 5 seconds off and force him to fall on it at the three lol!sycasey said:Squib kick could also result in a shorter field if it gets cut off early.GMP said:BadNewsBear1 said:

Why not be proud of the beauty of Santa Clara County?
A long time south bay resident here. What a terrible location for an nfl stadium. Both the niners management and the city of sc failed a big time.dmh65 said:
What a lousy move for the franchise to leave SF for Santa Clara, i'm still pissed about it. I think they saved a bunch of money short term, but really devalued the franchise in the long term. And it's not just the location; I think it's a lousy stadium.
I'm also unhappy that the Warriors left Oakland for SF, but that's at least understandable.

Having worked nearly 20 years in that area, just a couple blocks away, I've seen that eyesore of a stadium too often. I've been inside a couple times for company events too and it, IMO, has zero aesthetic appeal from within also. There's simply no jaw-drop factor; and there should have been for this franchise, Silicon Valley, the Bay Area...socaliganbear said:dmh65 said:

I'm more shocked that they built a stadium that immediately felt dated. All around the league teams have built awesome venues and the Niners didn't even try.

i wished they had stayed in SF too, but I'm not sure they ever could have gotten their stadium built there....at least not at the same favorable terms.dmh65 said:

Yeah, they tricked Santa Clara into giving them that sweet deal they should never have supported. Good for the Yorks I guess.philbert said:i wished they had stayed in SF too, but I'm not sure they ever could have gotten their stadium built there....at least not at the same favorable terms.dmh65 said:

They're valued at $4.2B (#6 overall in the league). I think the franchise will be ok long-term.
I will disagree with you on one point. I think there are aspects of the stadium that are jaw-dropping. I think the stadium was designed for suites and the club level first and everything else was an after thought. The club level and suites are phenomenal and I think they will hold up quite well over time.Cal89 said:Having worked nearly 20 years in that area, just a couple blocks away, I've seen that eyesore of a stadium too often. As far as the location goes, the South Bay, there's a huge population base here though. San Jose itself is larger than San Francisco. I recall research indicating a majority of season ticket holders were south of SF too, so the decision in that respect makes sense. Major highways are within a couple miles of the stadium, so pretty good in that respect and I don't recall much in the way of residential housing nearby (was born in Santa Clara)...
It's funny because a lot of people portrayed niners tailgating as wine and steak (and there are certainly some people like that). The last decade plus at the stick proved that stereotype to be less and less relevant and the parking lot feels more like Mos Eisley Cantina meets Margaritaville than it does the Carnelian Room.bearister said:

Some have said that describing me with this term constitutes an unmerited upgrade.
With respect to suites and club level seating, I have no valuable input there, so I'll take your word on those.Unit2Sucks said:I will disagree with you on one point. I also have less of an issue with the move south than I do with the specific move to SC. The location is horrendous and it makes going to games a complete chore. Granted, I live in the city, but still it's a disaster to get to even if you are coming from closer because they built it in the middle of office parks. It's obvious that very little thought was given to how to move tens of thousands of cars within a compressed timeframe so people will start getting antsy to leave before the game ends - hence you end up with the proverbial LA fan. I went to a preseason game recently (got dragged to it) and by far the worst part was between the freeway and the parking lots. The connection to SF proper had become nominal over the years. Most people in SF are transplants and don't have any connection to the niners. The move sucked for the fans from Vallejo, Napa and Marin but I believe that on average fans are driving fewer miles to the new stadium than the stick.
I'm also not sure this is really related to the move but there also seem to be a lot more riffraff tailgating than at candlestick. The stick certainly wasn't a conflict free zone, but from what I can tell it's significantly worse now. I can't imagine taking my kids to a niner game until they are in middle school or high school. Maybe this is because the raiders left, I don't know.
