Does the student section have any student mic men/women anymore or do they only have the stadium mic man?

Well, there were mic folk down in front of the student section for our two home games so far this year.

There are 2 personalities who get on the mic. There is an official MC, who stands on the field and does the stupid "1 or 2" game, introduces notables, does the punt-pass-kick contest, and generally leads a pre-game cheer.

We also have a mic man. (We usually have more than one, but this year I think there's just the one). He leads cheers at the Sproul rally, is supposed to direct cheers from the student section, and also occasionally gets on the stadium PA. If you hear anyone telling you to "get loud, get proud".. that's him -- that's his go-to phrase.

Thanks for clarifying. Is the "get loud, get proud" guy a student? He seems pretty bad. Do you know who is in charge of deciding who gets to be mic man?

One challenge is that the mic man usually has a benchmark to go by: the person who did it the previous year. They spend winter, spring and summer imagining, "How can I do that... but even better?"

But there was no last year. And when undergrads are only there for 4 years total, missing a year is almost an eternity.

Normally I'd think a one year absence would not matter. There would be juniors and seniors that would have seen how it's done and know the cheers. The problem is the institution has been slowly dying, it has been years since there was anyone good, so the institution was not strong enough to handle the year off.

An intervention is required.

Intervention?

Considering the team this year, would you iike to be Mike Man??

Most annoying MicMan habit of the last 10+ seasons: starting a "Hey, Alumni, GO!", or some other "let's make noise" cheer as we are getting ready to start on offense. Happens far to often. Even once is inexcusable.

Drives me up a wall. It demonstrates that there's no grasp on how football and cheering is supposed to work.

We have had great micmen in years where we had bad teams. Sarcasm, intelligence, wit, creativity, venom for our opponent, love for Cal will go a long way to getting the students engaged, enjoying the game even if our team stinks.

Is exceptionally irritating. A total turn off. Every person involved with the operation of it should be canned. - but of course we know that won't happen. Why? - because it's Cal!!!
