One of the head coaches in the Cal-Washington State game is on this list.

And it's not Justin Wilcox.

Indicates Cal's irrelevance in college football. Our coach should be on a hot ejector seat but no one cares to report on it.

I think Feldman is plugged in Cal-wise.

Exactly. He knows no one cares.

My thinking is that Wilcox will be back next year. No matter what happpens. And this seems to confirm it.

Yeah. I think Knowlton's going to give him one more year to right the ship. Not sure what his buyout is.
I suppose a donor uprising could spur the AD to act, but Cal usually moves conservatively on these decisions. Partially because of financial considerations, partly because there's not that much pressure from the administration, fans, and donors.
I have a feeling we're going to be sitting in misery waiting for a change like with coach Fox. I felt this way with Braun, Tedford, and Dykes.

Exactly, no one cares. Even the Cal administration.

Correct. And "right the ship" here means 5-7 in '22, so 2-1 in OOC (at Notre Dame sept.17), and 3-6 in conference and he stays until at least late december 2023. This is The Cal Way. What do you see? You see berkley.

to be fair I assume that this year's fundraising request to the biggest donors is going to be for the Fox buyout.

One of the things that I don't think we nearly appreciate as much as we probably should is that unlike a lot of universities Cal simply will never go into serious general fund debt for buyouts or to pay a high salary with the hopes of making it back over time. Thus JK is, through his own fault, stuck with not really being in a position to fire TWO coaches the same year (though he should).

Wilcox is definitely on track to be on a very hot seat next year. If we play a lot more games like we did last Saturday and finish, say, 3-9 this season, there will be a huge (but probably unsuccessful) clamor to replace him this December. Perceived player morale will figure into the equation.

Sad but true.

Kind of a hopeless situation for FB and MBB. Everyone could see the Fox firing from the day he was hired. Football is dead-sport-walking for the second year in a row, and you know a ton of talent is going to bail through the transfer portal after this season.

No energy to elevate the programs, no confidence the current coaches/admin will improve. But at least now we can watch the twin dumpster fires in person.

Yay.
