Why in the heck would they cover that game? Oregon is a pretender and UCLA is mediocre.

Gives ESPN LA offices something to do.

The 194,000-square-foot Digital Center in the downtown location was to be" the latest example of the "increased focus" on the west coast for ESPN. The move to LA made sense when USC was a football power and adjacent to Staples pre-Covid (ESPN President: "so many large events here whether it is the Kings, Lakers, Clippers, the Espys so to be able to play off the fact that they are happening literally across the street").

There really isn't a better game next week, unless you think USC vs. Notre Dame is better. To me it's a toss up and so they chose to be in California rather than Indiana. Makes sense to me.

Lol what
ESPN invested a ton of cash in an LA outpost that is cratering money. They need as much west coast and preferably Los Angles exposure at they can get.

oh I get that, I'm just laughing at the fact that this is the best the conference could do this season.

Seriously! We didn't even get this during our heyday years under Tedford. Talk about a win for UCLA.

ESPN isn't what it was. I watch a variety of stations to get sports news. The hold they had on all kinds of sports has withered away. Granted, they have the SEC, but who cares unless you live in eastern Tennessee or east Texas.

Didn't I read somewhere that SportsCenter wanted to come to Berkeley for the Tennessee game, but Sandy/Cal nixed it. (Tree people, traffic?)

ESPN's College Gameday is not what is was before.
The difference between a right wing conspiracy and the truth is about 20 months.

I must've missed their Nobel Prizes this year. I know, we only got one.

They got one, we got two. To be honest, I'd give that up ina heartbeat for a final four presence and a respectable football team that gets a GameDay experience.

Should have gotten ESPN to build a bay area head quarters on people's park in exchange for game day. Seems plausible. Then again I got up at 3am this morning. Everything seems plausible.

I'm struggling to connect what ESPN College Gameday has to do with ESPN LOs Angeles.

Like what would ESPN LA staffers do that isn't done at other Gameday locations?

Also, I have no idea about the cost. But it makes sense to have an LA presence just because it's close to Hollywood and Los Angeles has 3 PAC 12 schools.. And LA has 2 of the hottest NFL and NBA teams. ANd the Dodgers and Shohei.

Let's stop hating on this. As far as the world knows, Oregon is number 9 and UCLA is winning games with an esteemed coach going against the school he made a national contender. Enough of a story line and given the other matchups across the country, this is fine.

Just cause we can't make this happen doesn't mean we need to hate on others for having their time in the spotlight.

For gameday to ever come to cal we will have to be undefeated (and optionally ranked) and playing a top 10 or top 5 ranked team (with initials U, S, O, and/or C).

Whereas if you're UO or UCLA, none of that matters.

Geez, if you are counting stuff like that, southern California probably has many more than three P12 schools.

Even Big 10 schools!

I suspect if you count everything that is accredited, there are well over 100 public and private universities in Southern California and, at least, 50+ in the Bay Area.

Just realized this will be the closest the football version of College Gameday will be to Sproul Hall in my lifetime.

I wonder how many students will actually show up at 3-4 am.

That is simply not remotely true. Sort of ridiculously untrue. Game Day would have come to Berkeley, but in absolutely typical Cal fashion where the most crazy unlikely unrelated thing can negatively impact us, Game Day went to Virginia Tech in honor of the massacre that had taken place there earlier in the year. Herbie wanted to cover this game so badly, he flew out after the Game Day Show in Blacksburg and did the Prime Time Nationally featured game with Brent Mussburger. The entire telecast was an homage to Cal and Cal football. It was a real highpoint of national exposure during the great Tedford run.

thank you, fiat lux, but the rumor is still out there for the Tenn game. (or is this an unreputable source?)

"Fitting said Cal turned the show down several years ago. He didn't say which year..."
