Yes, a true blue frosh. Prepped at De la Salle, so lots of coaching and top high school competition.

I'm a fan, even when he was getting bogus PI calls back against Sac. St.
The dude covers.
I like our young core of DBs in general
Lots of upside. Lots of ballin'

Someone on the staff saw something in Hearns that entirely refuted his low star rating. I thought his rating was the lowest of any of our recruits. I'm guessing that a member of the DeLaSalle coaching staff tipped off the Cal recruiter that Lu was a hidden gem.

His compete level is off the charts. Absolutely fearless and seems to have the perfect attitude for a db - a combination of confidence and a short memory. And he seems pretty sound fundamentally - credit to the coaching staff for improvement for the entire db group on that front.

He was well known but not highly rated due to his size. So, he didn't have the "measurables". You can't measure heart, as Wilcox said, "glad he is on our team".

Yeah, when he committed, folks here (including yours truly) were like, meh. Now. we're like "MEH, BABY!"

I know people are often enamored by taller cornerbacks, but I will take somebody with good quickness, agility, fearlessness and football instincts any time.

Which takes back to 5'9" Chidi Iwuoma battling 6'6" JJ Stokes for a pass to Stokes in the EZ. Needless to say Stokes won that battle. Iwuoma ended up having a nice pro career after being undrafted. Stokes not so much after being selected, in Rd. 1 by SF.
