Huh. According to ESPN, he hasn't fumbled ever - in four years! Pretty solid stat!

Meanwhile Damien Moore has fumbled a few times so he went from starter to not playing at all. I feel bad for him because he is a very good back. Hope he comes back strong.

He seems so much faster and shiftier this year:

YPC by year
2018 4.0
2019 4.4
2020 3.1
2021 5.2

Almost like a new player with the name change. Congratulations to Mr. Brooks, undoubted he has put in a lot of hard work and fought through some injuries. Probably our new RB coach deserves some credit too.

This years RB YPC:
1. DeCarlos Brooks 9.6
2. Marcel Dancy 5.6
3. Chris Brooks 5.2
4. Damien Moore 5.2
5. Chris Street 5.1

We lose C. Brooks and Dancy (I am assuming), but the other guys, especially DeCarlos, seem very promising, even if we don't bring in another back.

C. Brooks has 1 more year of eligibility so we won't lose him unless he elects not to use it at Cal.

Oh he may have been too. But I think they were also reluctant to going to him because he fumbled a few times in key spots.

Perhaps it would help to find out what Tiki Barber did to improve in this area. I recall reading years ago that he learned to hold the ball in a different spot and that made all the difference.

Christopher Brooks didn't get the love he deserved from a lot of folks here. He might play on Sundays.

They are all Cal Bears, they all deserve our love. However, the most productive players should get the majority of the reps.

Brooks was averaging about 4.0 YPC for three years before this year. I thought Dancy deserved more love and carries, but Brooks really took it to another level this year. He definitely fits Musgrave's power offense better than Baldwin's spread but he has added speed balance and moves he didn't show before.

I agree that Cal fans overlook him. If he does indeed have a year of eligibility left, I really hope he stays here. In any case, I wish him the best.

I hope he stays here too, and haven't seen or heard anything to indicate he won't. He absolutely has another year of eligibility. He graduated from HS in 2018 and played for Cal in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. 2020 didn't count against eligibility for anyone due to COVID. So this year he was a Senior academically but still a "Junior" to the NCAA. This is reflected on the team roster page with a ^ notation in the last column:

34 Christopher Brooks RB 6-1 235 Sr. 4th Oceanside, CA / El Camino HS ^

"Notes: ^has an additional season of collegiate eligibility remaining beyond what is listed in the year column as part of the NCAA's blanket eligibility waiver for all 2020-21 student-athletes; experience column indicates what collegiate season student-athlete will be participating in during the 2021 campaign"

Cal actually has very few players who are exhausting their eligibility this year, and only one that I know of so far who has entered the transfer portal. That's not to say there won't be more, and I 'm holding out a sliver of hope Deng can get another year on waiver. Our most impacted position groups are OLB and WR. We're really going to miss Bimage and Goode, and Clark and Crawford were two of our most productive receivers (particularly late in the season).

OFFENSE
QB Glover
RB Dancy
WR Clark; Crawford
TE None
OL Daltoso

DEFENSE
DL Bequette
ILB None
OLB Bimage; Deng(?); Goode
CB Drayden
S Hicks

ST
K Ramos

PORTAL
CB Anusiem (Note: already removed from roster page)

If he is injured, I didn't hear or see anything.

Cal lost two fumbles this year, both of them Moore's, the last play vs. UW and Cal's first offensive play vs. Stanford. Of the other 5 fumbles this year that weren't lost, one was Moore's, so 3 total fumbles on the year. Which is 3 too many.

After the fumble on the first Cal offensive play of the Big Game, Moore didn't get back in the game. He did not appear hurt on the play, but that was it. Against UCLA, he got in for one carry near the goal line on our failed attempt to score near the end of the game, and did not seem hurt. He had no carries vs. SC, I don't think he saw the field.

Moore had the most carries heading into Big Game, with 98, to 77 for Brooks, he still had the most carries heading into the UCLA game in spite of having only the one carry in the Big Game. He ended the season with the third most carries behind Brooks and Garbers, but did get to exactly 100 with the UCLA carry.

I hope he overcomes any fumble issues and we see him back carrying the ball next year.

Wilcox said Moore was injured on the play where he fumbled in the Big Game. WIlcox says Moore injured That doesn't mean Moore would have had another carry in the Big Game after the fumble....
