This thread reminds me of the adage about "everyone's undefeated in the preseason."
Here's what I do know: media pundits rarely seem to have a good grasp on Cal's potential for success or failure in any given season. And every once in awhile, the sun the moon and the stars align, and we end up with Cal '75, or Cal '91, or Cal '04. That's part of the joy -- and uncertainty -- of being a Cal fan.
Maybe, just maybe, Kai Millner's got a little Pawlawski in him, or maybe the Plummer transfer from Purdue has a golden arm, a lot of moxie, and likes the change of scenery he found in Berkeley. Maybe the O line doesn't get depleted. Maybe a Regan Upshaw along the D-line comes in and puts the fear of God into opposing QBs. Maybe there's a Russell White or JJ Arrington sitting in our RB room right now, and soon enough, we're all going to know about it.
Or maybe we'll go 5-7 (spit) again. Who knows how it will play out, but I'm on board for another autumnal ride.
Yep, I was a student for the 1975 ride and it was something. Who knew Cal was going to be that good? We thought Muncie was good, but hey, he had to split time with Harold Strickland the year before. Bartkowski had been so inconsistent that Vince Ferragamo may have started more games in 1974.
I lived near Seattle in 1990 and watched Cal get crushed at Husky Stadium so I didn't expect the 1991 team to be anything special and I was delightfully surprised - well up until the Big Game.
So, once again, I'm ready for the season! And even if Cal is 0-11, I'll be at the UCLA game just to boo those miserable scumbags the entire game.
