I moved out of Cali (Walnut Creek) when I was 17 years old (a few decades ago) went to college at ISU (could not meet the higher education standards of Cal, plus they had no wrestling program) on a wrestling scholarship, met my lovely bride and never looked back! 6 children and 5 grandchildren later, I call Boise Idaho home! It appears a few of you have found my secret! I'm curious (but don't want to be intrusive) maybe a quick bio on where you're from, how long have you lived in Idaho, what city you live in. Again share whatever you want. I still love Cali, but it's not same place I grew up....

I am promoting the Pac 10 strong consider expanding the conference back to the Pac 12 with the addition of two teams from the following group -- 1) SDSU, 2) Boise St., and 3) UNLV. Boise St. has the advantage of being a great football school (I think a consecutive winning record starting around 1995) and is, apparently, growing fast.

How happy would those in the Boise area be if Boise St. joined the Pac 12? What things would Cal fans enjoy doing in the Boise area. I have read their is a decent wine area, with about forty wineries, about thirty miles south of Boise, though with some funky wine titles people in NorCal are not used to. Is that true?

First off no to Boise St. Yes they have had success in a weak conference and they enjoyed upsets. But let's be real! There is nothing like playing a Pac12 schedule, week in and week out we face top caliber players. We have seen what injuries look like playing schedules like this every year. Like I tell my B.S.U
friends, we don't have to wait to the end of thd year to play in bowls, we play them every week! Now about the wine, no comparison to Napa and Sonoma! Idaho are too young and finish to harsh, just my opinion. I do give them props on beginning the process, Napa didn't happen over night! Now if you want to talk sbout Oregon wines! The Pinot's are the best! Salud!

Cal and Berkeley have been the bastion of left-wing bs since before you were ever there. (I can say this, as I am a card-carrying liberal.) It didn't change; you did. That's fine. People change. It is the normal order of things.

I would visit the great state of Idaho, except I'm afraid that just knowing to pronounce it "Boy see" and not "Boy zee" wouldn't be enough to fool the locals.

I know you love Cal, so let's win some damn games this fall, my brothers. Go Bears!

I remember crossing those tracks when I walked to school! I remember riding my bike downtown from Rudgear with my brother on Sunday. Not a soul to be seen.....

When my parents first moved to WC, we rented a home off of Palmer Rd, which dead-ended one block south from the Rudgear Estates Swim Club. Around 1965, we moved to Northern WC up near Buena Vista Elementary and bought a 3 bedroom ranch style home with almost a half-acre for $20,000.

Nowadays, WC is like Newport Beach ..... without the beach.

I'm LL class of '73. Grew up in Walnut Knolls. Walked those tracks EVERDAY. Tons of fun those 4 years! Went to Pinky's on frequent, regular basis when at it it's original location (California/Newell) I go there now approx. 6 times/year - a beef/onion or pepperoni/pineapple!! Can't go wrong w/either!

Those lights made it possible for Del Valle High School (closed in 1979, now part of Rossmoor) to play their games at night. Del Valle had no lights.

That's correct. I'll include you w/the 'trivia q - Do you know how the Knight's got those lights?

I was at Berkeley Farms all the time! My pregame meals in '71 & '72 were there. And when I was a student at Cal, friend from SMC worked there. I've never had a better chocolate 'shake!!

My buddies and I got split up after attending WC Intermediate.

Some went to Del Valle and I wound up at LL even though older kids on my block (near Buena Vista) had gone to Del Valle. - - - Berkeley Farms was a perfect place to meet up. Super spacious booths.. Friendly. And terrific shakes and sundaes!

After I graduated high school in June'72 I got a summer job there as the soda jerk. I worked the 5:30 pm - 1:30 am shift and repeated during summers of '73,'74, and '75. I worked that shift on Friday night all through Cal.

I think the coffee shop seated at least 125. After 8 pm people came just for the ice cream. It was a union shop and the waitresses told me that helping me fill a restaurant full of orders was not part of their job. I worked at hyper speed, including re stocking my station. I almost got hit by drunk drivers 3 or 4 times after work driving to my parents' home in Oakland and back to Berkeley during the school year.

I certainly do! I was in car pool during elementary/intermediate school and EVERY Friday my mom would p/u 1/2 gallon glass containers of milk from there! And during my freshman & sophomore years at LL, a buddy & I drove our 10 speed bikes there after football practice & buy multiple OJ bars!

One of my all time favorite restaurants. The bar was right out of a Scorsese movie. Steaks, prime rib, veal, fish, pasta, etc., he did it all and he did it well.

My bachelor party dinner was there. It broke my heart when he got a divorce and the place went tits up in early 90,s, I think. A Chilis moved in the space but went under. The building is being renovated after being empty for years.

Crogan's across the side street closed years ago after one patron shot another on the sidewalk around closing time.

I hung out there quite a bit! Had great dinners. And my sister worked at place next door, The Refectory. Crogran's along w/Mountain Jacks in Lafayette & Tar & Feathers in WC were my bar hoppin' ' places after I graduated from Cal in June '78!

Tuesday Night's at Mountain Jack's was EPIC.

The Russo Brother's (saxaphone) played there.
Marc Russo went on to hit the big time in Tower of Power and the lead in "The Yellow Jackets"

One of the most overlooked and efficient alto-sax players around.
