Wow and this I guess is why the Browns are the Browns.

Musgrave is more suited to being a Pro Coach than a college coach. He just is not a good match for situations where an OC must think "outside the box" and tailor hus plays to the broadly varying skill levels and skill sets
that a coach encounters across the board in college football.

It's somewhat interesting to hear this news and I certainly don't wish the man ill, but I'm really glad that the image of Musgrave has been rapidly receding in my rear view mirror over the last few months.

Agreed, and he is more suited to being an "offensive assistant" to someone who used to be his offensive assistant. And for the Browns. Peter Principle. I was thinking he should retire, but see he just turned 55. I really thought he was older than that. Hard to believe Pete Carroll is 16 years older than him.

It is a shame Wilcox stuck with him for 3 seasons (ditto Baldwin).

as an "offensive assistant." Maybe it's worth a few hundred grand to get his ideas and then just do the opposite.

Was there a buyout when he was fired? Would this hiring reduce it?

And this has been Wilcox's biggest failure in my opinion.
Sticking with coaches on the offensive side of the ball that have been mediocre at best.

In 2018, I recall that we were in the driver's seat against then #5 Waazzu up in the Palouse and Baldwin kept putting in (McIlwaine) in the redzone . . . . in these oh so predictable "wildcat" formations near the goal line. The kid had 6 carries for MINUS 2 YARDS. I wanted to puke!

We lost 19 - 13 after having been tied 13 - 13 at the end of Q3.

Couldnt believe that Baldwin was allowed to get on the flight home. He blew that game for us. I would have told him to rent a car and drive home, so he could have some time to think about his ridiculous play-calling.

Baldwin was 4 - 21 at Cal Poly.
0 - 5 vs in-state rivals.

Good luck ASU!

I believe he had total pay at Cal of roughly $660,000
$250 + $410 (other) pay.

During 2017, 2018, and 2019 we had the 11th, 12th, and 12th ranked offenses in the Pac-12.

He was making $346,000 at Cal Poly as head coach.

Contract Details: Beau Baldwin (247sports.com)

(If the University terminates Baldwin's contract without cause, Cal would owe him a buyout of 70% of his base salary, talent fee and retention bonus for the remainder of the term.)

Baldwin also agrees, in the contract, to take "affirmative steps to mitigate the University's obligations to pay damages that may be sustained by virtue of termination," which is to say, he is under obligation to find another job should he be terminated by Cal, and that new job's salary would mitigate the monies paid to Baldwin under the buyout. Crucially, if he agrees to an employment arrangement that does not "provide reasonable compensation consistent with Coach's experience for the position accepted, Coach waives the right to, and the University shall have no obligation to pay, any remaining payments due to Coach."

I think bipolar is asking about Musgrave, or is that who you meant? Hard to imagine either OC had more than a three year contract or that Wilcox ever gave them an extension, but stupider things have happened at Cal under Knowlton.

You're right.
My bad.

Musgrave was making $250,000 in base pay and another $725,000 in "other" pay for a total of:
$975,000

His contract ran from Jan. 6th 2020 to Jan. 31st, 2022

Did he get an extension for "COVID" or did Wilcox think there was something about our 2020 and 2021 offensive performance that warranted an extension?

A cool $million doesn't go far these days.

It's all relative. Bay Area median household income is the highest in the country at $116,005.

$1 million is 8 to 9 times what most households in the Bay Area bring in.
