Finley probably wins that Covid game in Arizona. Can't have another Glover scenario ever again and I'm hopeful that the growing QB room will ensure that.
Why? Plummer didn't win last year at Colorado and they lost every other game. Hard to blame the Arizona loss solely on Glover, since Garbers was not the only starter we were missing.
The one with over 2 dozen players out including 3 of 5 starting OL? From an OL we already were complaining about?
The one where we had 24 carries for 28 yards rushing? Averaging 1.2 yards per carry?
And Arizona has 49 carries for 211 yards? Averaging 4.3 yards per carry?
With zero OL protection and zero running game Glover was running for his life, but sure, an even less mobile Finley wins that game but like Plummer loses to Colorado last year?
I'll accept that Finley has a better arm, but with 3 of 5 starting OL from an already porous OL not making the trip and having zero running game, a less mobile QB is on his back and does not even have a chance to miss that throw.
Look at how many times our RBs were hit in the backfield for a loss? A little over 1 yd per carry.
Blaming the backup QB for that loss is weak sause.

To me, looking at someone like this who is just completing their first year, I say that's less about depth charts and on the field and more about not finding the University to be a fit for him....I have no inside info, so just throwing that out....Rushinbear said:Odd.KenBurnski said:Thank you CAL!💙💛 pic.twitter.com/gspb4xToI5

That's fair. But let's face it: the demands of balancing academics and athletics are going to be easier just about anywhere else he goes right?oski003 said:mbBear said:To me, looking at someone like this who is just completing their first year, I say that's less about depth charts and on the field and more about not finding the University to be a fit for him....I have no inside info, so just throwing that out....Rushinbear said:Odd.KenBurnski said:Thank you CAL!💙💛 pic.twitter.com/gspb4xToI5

Wow, local kid too. I struggled a little my first year at Cal because it rained a lot due to it being a rare El Nino year. Walking to school and across a large campus in the rain was tough. The past 4 months have been uniquely cold and rainy. That could always factor in someone's experience.
Or, maybe he has seen who's walking through the Portal. Am I a bad man for having such thoughts? Or, is that just a manifestation of the extent of my unrealistic hopes?mbBear said:To me, looking at someone like this who is just completing their first year, I say that's less about depth charts and on the field and more about not finding the University to be a fit for him....I have no inside info, so just throwing that out....Rushinbear said:Odd.KenBurnski said:Thank you CAL!💙💛 pic.twitter.com/gspb4xToI5

That's fine, and maybe Cal was not very encouraging about his future. I'm in no position to argue anything...I just think it's odd/rare to have someone doing the portal this early in the game at a position(s) that needs a lot of bodies(unlike getting recruited over at QB), let alone a position of weakness for Cal.Rushinbear said:Or, maybe he has seen who's walking through the Portal. His declaration certainly came as a surprise. A redshirt frosh and already 2nd team? What did he think?
Or, maybe, as some have already surmised, it was a bad fit, despite the considerable knowledge that this local player must have had before commiting in the first place.
He's from Reno, rain has nothing to do with itoski003 said:mbBear said:To me, looking at someone like this who is just completing their first year, I say that's less about depth charts and on the field and more about not finding the University to be a fit for him....I have no inside info, so just throwing that out....Rushinbear said:Odd.KenBurnski said:Thank you CAL!💙💛 pic.twitter.com/gspb4xToI5

Was that '82-83? I had to ride around on a broken moped that year in my last year of high school after my parents moved away and I stayed behind to graduate with my friends without a car.oski003 said:Wow, local kid too. Spring portal closes today. Guess we will see possible quarterbacks and offensive line available and hopefully get some key prospects.
Yes. It closes on the 30th. Pretty sure that means midnight on the 30th but don't hold me to that. Regardless that's the deadline for players to ENTER the portal. They can commit after that date. And that's of course only relevant for undergrads. Grad players don't have that limitation. Regardless we are going to close on some key players (or die trying) next weekend.Econ141 said:Grrrrah76 said:

Thought it was the 30th?
If Alabama was willing to take the injured Notre Dame QB, imagine how man of the big boys what will go after Thorne, and open up their wallet. There were too many QBs in the Portal last time that devalued their worth, and too few this time, making it a seller's market so far.ncbears said:
Michigan State starting QB - Peyton Thorne - to the portal. with Jackson and Finely already in through the portal, did the Bears jump too early (I have no idea (1) if Thorne is that good or (2) he would have had any interest in Cal)
Actually went to the same high school as Jackson. But even that said, I think the geography would have been a stretch...ncbears said:
