What does this debacle mean for recruiting?

I could be wrong, but the current rules allow recruits to get out of their commitment pretty easy. I wonder how these current players feel about their situation.

Not well. But I'm sure they are fretting about lost study time traveling to play Duke

Our recruiting hasn't been good for a number of years, so maybe this helps?

Better question is what this debacle means for retention. Hopefully whoever is in charge of the transfer portal has properly load tested it.

we are on the semester system, imagine how stressed UCLA athletes are? quarter system is brutal for student athletes.

most student athletes fly commercial and don't have charter planes. football will be fine with their charter flights, but they may have to stay in hotels for several weeks trying to cut down on the physical stress of weekly cross country travel. which means finding facilities for workouts, training, recovery, meals...and pressuring professors to accommodate student athletes who will be physically out of class for weeks...

Quacks, uDub, U$C, and fUCLA have all set up their student to fail both academically and athletically. its taking some of the hardest things of the pandemic and institutionalizing them for student athletes, just to get more money that the schools didn't really need.

the University administrators that pushed this reorganizing never stopped to actually think about the students in other sports. The universities aren't going to push for the same level of accommodations for volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball, track and field...which means those students have to fly back and forth...proving Chip Kelly right. all the schools in the Midwest and East Coast will start winning the national championships that the Pac-12 used to own.

can't wait for student athletes to unionize and lower the hammer on the Big 10 and Big 12. That 100 million the west coast Big 10 schools are going to get is going to get divvied up amongst the athletes in all the affected sports.

These are verbal commitments and they are only worth the paper they're written on.

Everything's up in the air right now. We need to get the conference thing straightened out (in a decent-to-good way) by December, at the latest, or recruiting craters. Alternatively, as a stop gap measure, we could offer them more in NIL than the other schools are.

If you are talking about 2023 recruits or current roster members, they are likely to stay put through this season, as we are still in the Pac 12. Even they might be able to transfer ASAP, if classes haven't started (next week?).

The whole thing has gotten crazy. Just nuts.
