You've already posted that in a separate thread a few weeks ago, so spare me.

You should call the Chancellor's office and tell them that their $ number in the Light The Way campaign is misleading. If you're so negative on CAL, why post? Still, call Carol Christ and tell her how the campaign is misleading or better yet, a lie. See ya!

I'm thoroughly impressed. How did such a small school do that relative the 1 mm we raised?

Yes, where are our billionaires!!! #Save CalFootball

Pierre directs his riches to Punahou School where his kids go (Obama, Manti Te'o, Steve Case, Michelle Wie etc.) and his non-profit independent news reporting company, Honolulu Civil Beat. So I bet he's not too interested in giving to Cal.

Elon is an East Bay guy (I know they moved the C suite officers to Austin but the heart of manufacturing is still Fremont) why don't we hit him up lol.

Our Uber wealthy types don't care about sports from what I have heard and much of the new money is folks with overseas backgrounds who could care less about most American sports and particularly football. Look how easy it is for the Light the way campaign to tack on another $200M recently. That's where they put their money.

We do have some sports backers that have significant means in the tech community. Some are quietly donating and I know of one who helped NIL. Most don't trust giving money to Cal, and certainly won't do anything with knowlton around.
That last part is key. I worked with several extremely wealthy alumni who were massive sports fans and they had zero desire to give to Cal athletics. They had no faith the money would lead to success on the field.

Well, we just raised $7B and have three months left until the Light the Way Campaign ends. There are plenty of people out there who have enough faith in our beloved University. If your wealthy alumni friends are concerned about the use of the funds, they can always place restrictions on its allocations and the University will be bound by those restrictions.
Indeed, almost al large donations come with detailed donor agreements where the University (campus, sports or otherwise) agrees to how the money is spent. This is true for essentially all colleges.

hypothetical but realistic light the way campaign phone conversation:

cal fundraiser: ok, jimmy, do you think with your net worth of 20 million that when you pass on it might be possible to donate some of that money to berkeley?

jimmy: well, maybe but not really sure, my kids & future grandkids will be the first priorities but yeah i might leave some money to berkeley

cal fundraiser: terrific!...i'll put you down for a 10 million dollar donation, please remember this is a non binding commitment so it's no big deal if you don't leave actually leave any money to berkeley...this is gonna help me win the sales contest!

jimmy: uh ok

cal fundraiser: by the way, how old are are you jimmy?

jimmy: ima 34, sold my tech company 2 years ago, living in ibiza now

I used to see Pierre at a Persian restaurant in Fremont off of Mission. I was once a consultant to Pierre on a Hawaii shipping venture and worked closely with his business partner Randy Ching. They both helped make Elon, Elon when they/eBay bought Pay-Pal.

Maybe Larry Scott opening the pac12 network to China really helped Cal. That's the majority of the international students at Cal now. The next highest is India. It must be to get the full student experience from football loving Chinese. Admins sure do love it!! Where's all the donors from China at!!!!
