essentially a number of posters (on a facebook page for Cal football) that take the line "cal has never been good, who cares". and "We are not a semi-pro team and that makes me happy"

Then a lot of folks saying that was have sucked since synder so oh well.

You mean like 75% of the people who used to sit around me for decades first in QQ then in H? If many of the people who attend games on a regular basis revel in the shytiness of their team, what hope can that team have for sustained success?

Years and years of ineptitude eventually takes a toll. Apathy has set in for the vast majority of the fan base and sucking year after years as undergraduates come and go does nothing to build a new generation of support. Personally I care less and less when I see a downward trend - it takes exciting coaching hires to bring me back. I'm excited to see what Madsen does with MBB. For football, wake me up when Wilcox is replaced.
