Grown adults with gray hair are also on their phones in the stands. I just saw fans in the stands on their phones in two different games that are on TV as I'm typing this.

We can't go back to the 1990s. And even in the 1990s when I was at Cal, students were going up and down the aisle at all times while plays were happening on the field.

OK, you all know that already. I'm at the game and the folks giving away the Memorial Stadium replicas are begging me to take more than one. There only 10K so I'm guessing that by game time that will be about the total attendance.

It's a beautiful day, 1 PM start, against a winnable opponent, the last game of the season, the last Pac12 game ever and yet no one is showing up. I know the product hasn't been great, but for Gods sake if you are even a half hearted fan this is easy to do.

Second worst case you sit in the sun and drink a beer and have to watch both sides almost lose, but Cal wins.

Third worse case you sit in the sun and drink a beer and disassociate yourself from being a Cal Football fan and think, "What a fun game, 42-39!"

I thought the west side of the stadium was quite full. I was impressed. The student section was a quarter full and pathetic.

The worst part was the mic-person sang "tell the whole wide world this is bear territory." We can't say "damn"?!?!

I saw on ESPN the attendance ended up being about 38k. Butts in seats was probably more like 30k IMO. Shady side of the stadium filled in nicely, sunny side less so. Who wants to hold a card or newspaper up to their head for 3.5 hours?

It would have been nice to have some sun on the east side. It was shady before 1:00 and was cool enough where I put my coat on during the game.
