I have advocated for this for years.

It was a tradition for decades, and it should be brought back, especially given this is the last time the two teams will meet as members of the Pac.

Oregon/Oregon State, U$C/UCla, Oregon/Oregon State, Utah/BYU all do it for their rivalry games and I would like to see them bring it back.

Wearing Blue jerseys is fine but a win is FAR more important to me!

As the visiting team, Cal can wear blue jerseys only if Stanford agrees in writing and the Pac-12 office okays it.

Excerpt from the NCAA football rules manual:

Quote:

b Color.
1 Players of opposing teams shall wear jerseys of contrasting colors
Players on the same team shall wear jerseys of the same color and
design
2 The visiting team shall wear white jerseys; however, the home team
may wear white jerseys if the teams have agreed in writing before the
season
3 If the home team wears colored jerseys, the visiting team may also wear
colored jerseys, if and only if the following two conditions have been
satisfied
a The home team has agreed in writing prior to the game; and
b The conference of the home team certifies that the jersey of the
visiting team is of a contrasting color
4 If on the kickoff at the start of each half, the visiting team wears a
colored jersey in violation of the conditions specified in paragraph 3,
it is a foul for unsportsmanlike conduct
PENALTYAdminister as a dead-ball foul. 15 yards at the succeeding

penalty isassessed either on the try or on thesucceeding kickoff, at the
option of the home team. [S27] In addition, Officials shall charge a team
timeout at the start ofeach quarter the illegal jerseys are worn, or a foul

Furd looks better in all white anyway, imo. So they should agree to it. However, I also like the gold jersey look.

I have no problem with Stanford wearing red when they play in Berkeley.

Per the section I bolded above, as long as everyone agrees, Stanford can wear red and Cal can wear blue.

Will there be anybody at the pac-12 office to read the letter? It will get dumped in the trash when kliavkoff empties out his desk.

Well, we could take the penalty. A foul and a time out..

If the two schools were able to join forces for admittance to the ACC, you would think this would be easy. Maybe somebody could do some "investigative reporting" to figure out why this isn't done every year.

I wonder if the original reason for white away uniforms didn't originate with black & white TV or even the black & white newsreels that preceded that. Blue vs red or green vs purple would be obvious contrasts in person, but could appear almost identical if viewed in black & white. Of course, colleges wanted that media coverage, so maybe that's why they implemented the white requirement for away uniforms. Does anybody know the history behind this?

According to this article, it's been required since 1949 -- and there's a Cal connection. Before that, some teams had started wearing white vests over their jerseys when the opposing team had similarly-colored dark jerseys.

When Pop Warner took over at Stanford a few years later, he had his team regularly wear white jerseys. Other schools followed later in the 1920s. Similarly, Michigan wore canary yellow jerseys when they hosted the Midshipmen in 1928. Still, consistently wearing jerseys of contrasting colors did not occur until the NCAA required the practice in 1949. Perhaps the rule was spurred on by the absurdity of the 1949 Rose Bowl when the Northwestern Wildcats won the coin toss over California, forcing the Bears to wear white jerseys rather than their standard blue.

In the ACC, that request will also have to approved by the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company.
