When you break it down, they really lost (and we really won) on Special Teams - the punts putting them in bad field position, their missed field goal; our made field goals; and the incredible 100 yard Jayden Ott kick return that came at a moment when it looked like they were turning tho momentum their way.
The UCLA returner just letting that punt sail over his head and bounce for 70 yards was truly baffling.
FWIW, the guys on ESPN thought he lost the ball in the lights.

Fiat Lux!

Thanks for posting. Maybe I've forgotten but it's been a long time when Cal has a guy that's the fastest on the field especially when we play a team that recruits elite players. That was pretty cool to see.

That UCLA player (#32 - Christian Grubb) was gaining on him so was probably faster but I get your point.

Update:

I checked and Grubb was the California state runner up in the 100m in high school and has a personal best of 10.40.

Ott's personal best is 11.34

I beg to differ. 32 was "straining", not "gaining." And,,at that point in the runback, Ott was running only as fast as he needed to run. He wasn't getting caught.

Ott wasn't going to get caught because he was that much farther ahead but if you look you can see that #32 was far out of frame and made his way into it. He definitely gained ground on Ott and that makes sense given he is a track athlete.
