The Airplane could play. This is from Dick Cavett's Day After Woodstock show (David Crosby backup vocals and tambourine)

*Jared Goff approves of this post in honor of all the freaks that graduated his Alma mater and now are among his biggest fans.
*A couple of Santa Clara University attendees in the band.

Maybe Ertz can resurrect his career in Detroit. Nice pair of TE targets for Goff if he's active.

I've met and spoken to Ertz a couple of times. Aside from picking Stanford he seemed like a pretty good dude.

It would be really cool if Cal+Niner fans did a Bear Territory chant for Goff when he comes out for warmups (and if he wins). Wonder what percentage of overlap there is for any given game.

I am neither a 49ers fan, nor a 49ers hater (grew up a Raiders fan in the '70s). So...

Go Lions! And especially... Go Goff!!!

I have been a 49er fan for decades--pretty much since Al Davis moved the Raiders to LA way back when. It was like my wife left me for another man. I found someone else--Joe Montana and the 49ers.

But I have been a Jared Goff fan since I met him at Fan Appreciation Day his freshman year before he ever played a down. The fact that he wanted to be a Bear all his life made him particularly special. Dude is a Bear through and through. Whatever team he has played for has been my side team.

So I am in an ambivalent can't lose situation next Sunday. I love the Brock Purdy story and generally root for the 49ers but want Jared to win the Super Bowl too. The fact that he would have beat the Rams and Stafford on the way to the Super Bowl, and that he would have brought the sad sack Lions to the Promised Land (unlike Stafford joining the loaded Rams) would be sooooo satisfying for a very deserving Golden Bear.

Go Bears!

Same here. My support for the Niners predates both the Bears and Raiders.* Then, my dumb neighbors gave me crap for supporting such a lame team. So being young and impressionable, I switched allegiances. Raiders were so good; Stabler, Branch, Biletnikoff, etc. were magic. Late 70's were a golden time for Raiders fans.

Grew up under the ever-suffering tutelage of an Old Blue ("BRING BACK TORCHIO!" still rings in my head!) and then just so happened to attend my first Cal game on November 20, 1982. Thus began my wholehearted Bear fandom, as well as my laser focus on attending Cal.

*My father had split allegiances as well. Born in SF, he attended Niners games at Kesar. So he, too, was a supporter of Niners red before HE attended Cal in the late fifties. Oh what a bonanza that time was! Then back to UCSF to suffer in med school, but the Bears stuck with him. Life-long Niners & Cal fan. Hated Furd and their red. So apparently one CAN support both without risking one's allegiance to the Blue & Gold.

Edit: Oops! Forgot to say: "Sorry Jared, rooting for the Niners."

Mark me down in the book, Okaydo!

"BRING BACK TORCHIO!!!"

Lions D will give up lots of pass yardage except in the Red Zone where Purdy will struggle like Stafford.

Jared will feel like he is playing for Sonny in that he will have to put a lot of points on the board, which he will. Purdy will not be able to keep up the barn burner pace and he will start throwing INTs.

Niners will have to wear shade screens to protect their eyes from Gibbs' blistering 4.36 40 speed.

49ers front will finally show up plus Detroit OL injuries put pressure on Goff he hasn't seen these playoffs.

Dan Campbell is a good story but this is too big a deal for him.

The 49'ers were the first team I followed back in the mid 1950's, even before I entered Cal and became a true blue Bear. In 1957 the Lions broke my heart. In 1957 the 49'ers were the only team I followed, the Giants were still in New York,I was in Jr high, the Warriors were in Philly. The NFL had only 12 teams back then, 6 in the Western Division, 6 in the Eastern Division. There were no Wild Car teams, no Superbowl. Only a playoff between the first place teams in the East and West for the National Football League Championship. Each Team played 12 games. the 49'ers and Lions tie for first place in the west with 8-4 records. They played a playoff game to determine who would play the Eastern first place team (Cleveland Browns).
The 49'ers started out strong in the playoff game, having a 20 point lead at half time. The 49'ers got the ball on the 20 to start the 3rd quarter. On the first play, Hugh McElhenny made a 71 yard run. The 49'ers had first and goal inside the 10. They had to settle for a field Goal. That miight have been the last points they scored. The Lions scored enought to win the game. They also bear Cleveland for the Championship.

I grew up in LA, a Rams fan, son of A Niners (and Stanford) fan from San Francisco. I remember as a kid making a Mod Poge of photos from Sports Illustrated of Niners QB John Brodie throwing to WR Gene Washington (both Stanford alums) to give to my dad before I realized they were rivals of my Rams, The Rams moved to Orange County and I dropped them. At Cal in the early 80s I became a Raiders and Niners (Montana and Rice) fan, but above all a Cal fan.

My pro sports allegiances have changed over the years as teams have moved around and Cal players join them or leave them. I rooted for the LA Raiders for sure. Later the Packers with Rodgers, the Seahawks with Marshawn, the Eagles with DeSean, Chargers with Keenan Allen, Carolina and the Washington with Tivera (and Richard Rodgers) as coaches.

The Niners passing on Aaron Rodgers for Smith like they had done previously passing on Rivera for Todd Shell and their historic love for Stanford alums has moderated my fandom over the years. Their leaving the City of my ancestors for Santa Clara also hasn't helped.

The Rams returning to LA, drafting Goff #1, wearing blue and gold was the trifecta. The Rams were my team. Then after McVey threw Goff under the bus, the opposite. They became the team I rooted against. I currently root the Chargers and Lions. I have zero permanent allegiance to any NFL team.

My wife, like many on the board, is conflicted. She is a Cal and Niners fan, also rooting for the Lions due to Goff and several of her closest friends being from Detroit. I am not conflicted. I am 100% for Goff and the Lions.

Agreed, the 9ers made is hard to root for them by consistently undervaluing Cal talent. Funnily enough, passing on local talent like Rodgers has cost them several Super Bowl titles.
