Crazy that the guy who went to Army on a hockey scholarship and retired after an undistinguished military career before going into athletics administration where he has mostly made colossal $multimillion screw-ups that could destroy the program he is in charge of, makes 2 to 3 times what his boss, a Cal grad with a PHD from MIT and a long history of extraordinary success in his field, makes. And has a longer contract.

LOL, Knowlton came in and sat in our section at a basketball game in February. We were like, wow, hologram technology is getting soooo advanced! I had to go up to him (it). Even shook hands. All I could blurt out was, "So lifelike!"

I'm old. I remember as a 16 year old during career day at SH we had football coach Vic Rowen from SF State come in and talk to us about a career in coaching. He wore a short sleeve white button down shirt with a purple SF State tie. He had grey slacks at 'flood' length, white socks and black coaching shoes (ripple soles, heavy sneakers). He had a pocket protector with pens in his shirt pocket. It was like he was satirizing a football coach, but he was not. He was just an old football coach, rather famous in the coaching fraternity, being true to himself. We snickered as teenagers. Now I look back and know better.
