"Morikawa played college golf at Cal, even raising to the No. 1 ranking in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for three weeks in May 2018."

Love it! But I can also get behind "California," especially now that we'll be joining the ACC, with the likes of North Carolina and Virginia. I'm all in favor of someone bringing the California state flag to Cal games, again, to re-establish that we are THE University of California, not some satellite school.

You must have missed the announcers say, "Colin Morikawa, a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley" on one of the last four holes today.

And you know what else, re the way it should be...the NCAA should craft their championships (BB, BaseB, FB etc) such that it's like the F1 or Sears cup system, where you win overall based on points, and things like the # of yrs and matriculation rates actually affect the scores. So if you had a hign # of student athletes actually earn a degree the year before, the next year's score is affected by a multiplier. It would give weight to the idea that these were sports played by student-athletes. Coaches might be more wary of recruiting one and dones.

Don't kid yourself. A lot of schools engaged in the sports/academics charade would make sure all their players get "degrees" if it impacted anything to do with their bottom lines.

Yes, Cal or California are both fine.

Absolutely. Not being in a conference with UCLA and "Southern Cal" has some benefits.
