I don't have acc networks so would love to hear the major insights about the conference and any details about Cal if other are watching.

All I have is X right now where I found this snippet:

FWIW, the ACC helmet display at media days has the alternate Cal helmet...

Do you get ESPN2? If so, you can watch ACC Huddle: Season Preview at 5:00 today. College Football Live is on at noon also on ESPN2 all week.

I am spending a few months in PA and NJ and have been watching the ACC channel's coverage of the ACC event.
Very little coverage of Cal and Stanford. The most they have to say is Cal has an outstanding running back that will be exciting to watch and a stand out young safety

They could not say much other than Cal and Stanford will have difficulty with the cross country travel required by their schedules

One of the hosts said he had talked to Wilcox and Taylor in person. Taylor he felt was a genius (my word) but it would take some time to rebuild the Stanford team. Wilcox he felt had Cal ready to play right now. (Here's hoping.)

Most of the teams had their coaches attend the program. Cal and Stanford (and SMU?) did not.

Our Bears are one of the ACC football teams making their media appearances today. Wilcox spoke this morning. Watch at the link given below.

I feel like a reporter probably should've pretty easily been able to piece together that the helmets were arranged alphabetically by school and not as a petty dig to Miami. But hey, why let a fact get in the way of a good joke?

Joe Roth Helmet?

Yes, Wilcox mentioned Roth in his talk this morning.

Also, per the recent unveiling of this season's football uniforms, that helmet is apparently being worn as an alternate this season, not necessarily with the Roth-era uniform style.

Why does Cal only have 30 minutes and everyone else has over an hour?

I didn't know Glen Powell's brother played for Cal.

I watched the entire thing. it certainly did not feel like 30 minutes. There was so much BS-ing about other ACC teams and personnel during the 30 minutes plus commercials.

Wilcox's ringing endorsement of his new OC: ""He's called plays before" and "He did a good job with the OL."?

I'm really hoping this turns out well for a change.

I am super worried given how the bowl game played out - his first at bat for Cal. Still not clear why Spavital left and if he was driven out, this might be akin to driving out Deruyter in favor of Sirmon who led us back to mediocrity in defense.

Do you have a view on Bloesch?

Reportedly, Spavital lost influence as the season went on, maybe starting after the offensive catastrophe of the Auburn game.

I would sure like to hear more about how Spavital's departure came about, and the things that led to it. It seemed so sudden (in-season). There had to have been a build-up or lead-up to his departure. Or a specific, intolerable transgression.

That could overall be true but I'd be very surprised if it was the Auburn game that did it and if it did that would be a damning indictment of Wilcox.

Auburn was the 2nd game of the season with a QB in his first year in the program and the whole offense in the first year of a new system (and had just put up 58 points the week before which was the highest scoring total in years although admittedly against North Texas).

Even losing agency over the offense seems confusing to me given how patient JW historically is. Could be true but I think it's more likely he just bailed to take a gig closer to where he's comfortable living/coaching/recruiting and where he has a real shot at being named HC (interim or otherwise) this season

Agres about the Spavital comment.

I haven't reviewed last year's stats, but it seem our offense has been better since Bloesch arrived. if our defense keeps going downhill, Bloesch would be a good candidate to take over as our head coach.

I said, "starting" after Auburn. Not that it was the only reason, more like, that was the beginning of questioning whether he was the right guy for this particular job.

Spavital lived in Berkeley before, so he knew what he was signing up for in that regard (versus Bloesch and and now Gilbert). More likely Spavital and Wilcox did not see eye to eye (on pace and style) and Bloesch is an OL coach preaching smash mouth football which is music to Wilcox's ears. There may have been disagreement about the three QBs as a well.

It felt like Wilcox promoting Bloesch to interim when Spavital left was pragmatic but making it permanent was premature and lazy. Sure enough, with Spavital gone, the bowl game was an offensive disaster. Hopefully it was an anomaly and we have a great offense this year. Everything is riding on it. To their credit, Bloesch and Gilbert are doing a good job of recruiting which is a HUGE part of the job.
