Has anyone seen or heard any talk with Ott as a possible candidate? Really all depends on the O-line......

Jaydn. I don't mean to nit pick OP but we should get our star player's name right.

I've seen him referenced a couple of times but only in the context of "Ott is great but his team won't be good enough to support his candidacy", which is self-evident. Going for 1st Team All-ACC is a more realistic goal.

Hampton at North Carolina is getting all the ACC buzz. If Ott beats him out for 1st Team All-ACC then Heisman might be more realistic. Wish Wilcox did more to promote him. As far as team results, given our schedule next year, if Ott returns for his senior season a Heisman could definitely be in play. A lot will depend on Bloesch and how he uses Ott. The Independence Bowl was not a good debut.

As stoked as I'd be to see Jaydn win a Heisman, I'd rather he saved that extra year of wear and tear for the NFL. As it is, running backs have short careers in the NFL. Jaydn would be best served by saving his body and getting extra money and contract years in the NFL.

I agree 100% especially for RBs

This is part of the thinking behind the billboard campaign. If Jaydn can run wild against Auburn and FSU and maybe a few others, we can flip those billboards to Ott for Heisman in early October. This way, the boards are reserved and it's as easy as sending over a new digital file.

Really hope we get this chance.

And, as much as I love seeing Jaydn in blue and gold, he needs to go at the end of this year to maximize his time in the NFL. Hoping for a long and healthy career for him, but running back's careers are just too short to not go as soon as they can.

In today's game running backs are so devalued that the Heisman is very unlikely. If he leads the nation in rushing, scores a lot of TDs, leads Cal to a high finish in the ACC and no QB puts up video game numbers, maybe he has a shot.

Gotta run back kicks with success, too. A. Reggie Bush type performance.

Honestly incredible to have you planning ahead for this hopeful possibility of the Heisman campaign, and also looking out for Jaydyn's long term. Excited to watch his best season as a bear this year.

This post - and most of the replies - is just so ridiculous in so many ways.

Heisman's go to only certain school's - and they typically have Heisman legacies. Cal might as well be Idaho State when it comes to Heisman consideration.

Running back getting the award? From a team that is expected to go .500 at best?

You think that Ott shouldn't go for the Heisman because it will hurt his NFL career? Ott is a GOOD (not great) running back - but do guys hear yourself?

I think everyone acknowledges that Heisman's typically go to quarterbacks playing on teams that win 10+ games and whose schools are relevant to the national championship discussion.

But, you completely lost me when you described Jaydn Ott as good but not great. The kid is special and he is a great running back.

What? Who is saying he shouldn't go for the Heisman because it will hurt his NFL career. Obviously if Jaydn won the Heisman it would turbocharge his NFL draft stock. That's obvious. I think the only point being made is that he should kick butt this year and then follow his NFL dreams and not return for a 4th year as a college running back. That is the opposite of not "going for the Heisman.". Going for the Heisman is EXACTLY what he should do . . in 2024.

But this all missing the point. The idea is not to have Ott win the Heisman (much as I'd love that) because we live on the planet earth and understand that running backs have a tough hill to climb even if they are on a national championship contender. The point is to have Jaydn and his accomplishments in the conversation for Heisman. Get his name out there. Promote him and promote Cal and (ultimately) remind people that Cal is a place where top end NFL talent can and has thrived. Remind them that this is the home of Aaron Rodgers and DeSean Jackson and Alex Mack and Marshawn Lynch and Jared Goff, etc., etc. And this school deserves to be in whatever super conference is ultimately formed.

That's the point of this promotion and this project. And if Jaydn can be the first Cal player in history to win the Heisman and the first RB since 2015 to win the award, then that would be awesome too.

I'd like to see him get on some lists of "Heisman possibles" and then stay on those lists as long as possible.

He needs a huge game or two, early, with a few ESPN-play-of-the-day type runs. Then we need to be racking up wins, with him playing an integral part. So this is as much about the rest of the team as it is him. (for example, when Ifanse went down last season, that hurt Ott, too, because it was hurting our offense and he was taking a beating)

Unlikely he wins the Heisman, but let's give it a run and see how far we can take it. Great running back!

ACCN on Mondays broadcast in the opening segment. Mark Richt said Ott " maybe the best RB in a loaded conference; this kid is special." The host mentioned "darkhorse Heisman candidate?"

It's a pretty hefty price tag for one game, albeit one that you can sink hundreds of hours into. However, there are plenty of great PS5 games so you can definitely get your money's worth

I'm 8-0 so far because of H1M!

When I want to give him a break, I like running Jaivian Thomas out there! Hiss OVR isn't that high in the game, but he is FAST!

I did exactly that! Been waiting 10 whole years and hadn't bought a new platform for myself that whole time, so I felt like I deserved it, ha. I dunno if it's worth it so far but it's only been a week and I've been definitely enjoying it. Bonus being able to combine gaming and Cal football with my son.

Fantastic! Great being part of the ESPN hype machine!

I think ESPN saw that we were an undervalued, undermarketed asset with a lot of upside. Wish the people we pay $millions to do that job thought so too.

Only 4 non-QBs have won the Heisman in this century.

The even more important component is winning. Every Heisman winner in this century played on a team that won at least 9 regular season games. Usually at least 10.
