Are there tours of Memorial Stadium. If so, I am thinking adding something to it.

I am thinking of contacting new Cal chancellor Rich Lyons to see if he would be open to adding something new to any tours of Memorial Stadium.

I have previeously suggested adding a new statue of Joe Starkey outside of the stadium with the ability to see The Play within it and donating $50,000 to building it. But I now think it would surely be likely it would be stolen if left outside the stadium and would be arduous to bring into Memorial for safekeeping each night. So now I think that if there are many existing tours for fans to see the inside of Memorial, the statute of Starkey with the electronics to show The Play couid be kept inside Memorial, locked up there at night and brought out for viewing during the day.

If there are existing tours inside of Memorial would you think my new idea would add something of interest Cal fans would want to see. If so, I would considery go through the arduous process (lot of red tape to set up a meeting with Lyons) to try to set up an appointment with Lyons to go through with the complicated procedures to meet him within the maximum fifteen meeting limit to talk to him ahout my idea.

Thanks for any comments you are willing to make on this issue.

I'd suggest a cardboard statue of Starkey that could be constructed and decorated by visiting schoolchildren

The Play hsd been ranked the #1 college play of all time, in large part due to Starkey's call. It actually is the best play of all time for both college and pro football, again in ver large part due to Starkey's call of it.

Just sent a detailed email to Markeisha Everett describing what I want to do. Will likely summarize on this thread what she suggested what I should do moving forward on my idea.

No! Starkey was a nice guy but should have been retired by 1985. He fed the gloomy, anxiety-ridden view of Cal Football that stole so much enthusiasm and joy from each game over the next two decades.

Just set up the meeting with Lyons and see what he says

In reading what is required to get something done with Lyons, there seems to be a large amount of red tape involved in arraniging a fifteen minute chat with Lyons (and probably more than one meeting), which it seems will lead to muliple meetings with him. If I ever meet him on this issuie, I hope we can make it just one meeting, indicating what would have to be done for me to contribute my promised $50,000 to Cal and to satisfy me that the very simple steps that I want done willl be agreed to by Cal.

If Cal agrees in writing to come close to the very few things II want done, which I will just write a check and leave it up to Cal to make good on their promise when they take it.. I don't want to spend a bunch of time treking up to Cal for multip[le short meetings on the subject. Just a short written document between us is all that is necessary to get this deal done from my end.

How about guided tours of Memorial then quick grab and go sandwiches at the Stadium Club, for like $100 which includes a donation? Or just make it fair market price and see if we can make money off it? Enough demand?
Gobears49

The guided tours of Memorial (probably inside and out) should include showing of the new statue of Starkey and a video recoding of The Play and Starkey's complete call of it and its aftermath, leading up to the decision by the refs to rule Cal had scored the final touchdown, starting off with Starkey yelling "will it count" and eventually with Starkey going bananas right after that, then eventually leading up to his famous ending statement "there will be no extra point" (as the six points Cal earned just by scoring the final touchdown did not require Cal needing to kick an extra point to have more points than Stanford.
l
I will also tell Rich Lyons, Cal's new chancellor, that Cal needs to tell ESPN that they want ESPN to come to Cal to host College GameDay, where the history of the greatest play in all of football (college and pro) can be remembered in all of its glory. It is not well known that Cal has never hosted College GameDay even though it was offered to them to do so, but Cal turned that offer down.

Hosting College Game Day will provide free advertising for Cal's football program and its other athletic programs, thus helping Cal's overall recruiting.

It's a 100 grand for a meeting with Lyons not 50. And cash only.

Really! I haven't read that. Can you please post that statement. But I'm not going to budge on my $50,000 contribution limit.

If anyone has an "in" in contacting Rich Lyons, you might want to send him the offer I have made on Bear Insider and what for. If the minimum contribution limit is really $100,000, perhaps he or one of his assistants would be willing to post that information on Bear Insider.

Thanks.

any feedback yet from markeisha?
https://athleticdirectoru.com/video/developing-authentic-brand-with-cal-everett/

but keep in mind that she's really busy with not offering FREE tixs to all students which is gonna crush the future pipeline of season tix buyers/builders of berkeley mega donors, tarp management at memorial stadium with tens of thousands of empty seats despite the departure of multiple bay area professional sports franchises from the market space, an undersold men's basketball program which isn't returning the roar back to haas despite an energized head coach & a women's basketball program which routinely got crowds of a couple hundred fans despite epic new interest in women's basketball

markeisha talks about building the cal football brand nationwide but recently wuz a billboard obstructionist, u gotta love her shout out to athletic director jim knowlton who hired her & also her pride in building a marketing team of 70+ employees that will add more bureaucrats this spring with a production studio

I now don't believe you. Nobody pays for this type of thing in cash. The payment should be deductible as a charitable contribution but can't be easily documented, if at all, for tax deduction purposes if paid in cash.
