I think the headline from the SMU - BYU game is SMU's quarterback has been benched in favor of the backup. Jennings looks a lot better, but Preston Stone was receiving a bunch of accolades prior to the season.
Agreed. There is a lot of ball to play between now and Thanksgiving, but I'd like Cal's chances. Playing @SMU should not be considered a probably loss.westcoast101 said:
This SMU team is terrible. Probably should have lost in Week 1 as 4 TD favorites vs. Nevada as well.
Oh, I agree. I thought it would take SMU a few years to the size and depth to compete along the lines in a power conference year in and year out. That said a lot of the pundits predicted them as the darkhorse for the conference based on their returning talent and the supposed great QB play of Preston Stone. Both now look suspect. Based on the early returns, they probably finish in the bottom 3rd of the conference.Bearly Clad said:
Tbh preseason I was chalking that one up as one of our easiest wins. I never saw the SMU hype and I still don't

ACC results so far have me realizing how little I know about the ACC.
Do they devour each other the way the Pac-12 would every year?
Syracuse up on Georgia Tech tells me nothing about how we will fair against either Syracuse or FSU.
All seem simultaneously winnable, as well as lose-able. Pittsburg seems like a W.
Granted, I have no real clue yet about Cal's identity as a team on either side of the ball.
agreed. as to the winning over the bay area market...Cal really needs to invite local football teams to come to games for free. I'm talking pee-wee football to highschool. invest in the future fans of the game. reach out to local boys n girls clubs, ymca, as well as urban youth programs.TedfordTheGreat said:
The ACC seems like the pac-12 of yester years from 2017 to 2022 without those dominant programs and lots of parity, except the bluebloods like FSU and Clemson have taken a step back.
I think last year's pac 12 is the strongest I have seen the conference maybe in the last 20 years. Thats why I still have hope that even sucking in the ACC could mean a 8 or 9 win season.
This is much needed to revitalize our program. Need to be the big fish in the small pond until we can win over the bay area market and re-engage our alumni
agreed, and it doesn't even need to be the entire bay area. They could easily start with just the east bay. Plenty of people there that are super local to try to appeal to.BarcaBear said:agreed. as to the winning over the bay area market...Cal really needs to invite local football teams to come to games for free. we have a giant vacuum of professional sports in the East Bay, and the few remaining pro teams are too expensive or too inconvenient to attend. we need to fill that vacuum, but something tells me even with our new chancellor Cal will not understand this and let this opportunity get away.
They can't believe it either.chazzed said:

I've never seen a coach get his level of attention without ever winning anything of substance
Very remarkable how good of a job he is doing in AustinAnarchistbear said:

Wow that was not a TD. That Oregon guy dropped it before the goal line! Bad call.
