We shouldn't have LSU and UCLA in our OOC slate the same season, it's kind of dumb, counterproductive scheduling, especially given that few other ACC programs schedule 2 "A" games out of their 4 OOC.
We need to get into bowl games even on down years, a 3-1 or better OOC record is key for that to happen consistently.
Scheduling UCLA as a regular opponent makes sense in terms of keeping access to SoCal for recruiting and for the alumni base. as well as minimizing travel. The downside is that with UCLA on the schedule, we can't also schedule schools like Florida or LSU any more, but this isn't much of a downside considering we are already frequently playing bigtime programs from those regions in the ACC.UCLA is a 50-50 game on any given year, they are down right now, but given the program's advantages are likely to bounce back pretty soon. We're talking about scheduling teams years in advance, so you never know how good they will be years from now.Quote:
I'm not sure right now UCLA is anything close to an A team.
I agree with this. Cal needs to schedule more wins in OOC, and with multiple away games on the east coast during conference play, the OOC should be west coast centric.
Ideally, there would be 1 game against a P4 team, 2 games against a mid-major like the Mountain West or the new Pac-12, and 1 tune up game against UCDavis, Sac st or Cal Poly.
Get to a minimum of 3-1 OOC and only needing a 3-5 record in conference to go bowling. Cal should also try to schedule a minimum of 3 homes game OOC a year for a total of 7 in a season.
