I saw this screwed up when I was at Cal

You need someone on the (then) alumni side to hold up a sign with the writing BEARS and then the alumni will know what to do and when. Once that was done a few times the alumn knew what to do without prompting.
They just did the cross field GO! (students) to BEARS! (alums) cheer. 2-3+ times at the NC State game.
"Just win, baby."

My parents still lament that they don't do the Oski Wow Wow cheer.
Or
"Womp 'em,
Side a' the haid (sic)"

or

"It's on the roof,
100 proof."

or

"Roll 'em up"
"Just win, baby."

What I'd like to see again is a competently executed alternating Go/Bears. The mic men keep forgetting that it MUST start with 'HEY ALUMNI! GO!" because this is the cue for the alumni to do their part.

Instead, we get this (both last night, and against Davis)

Students: "GO"
Pom pom girls: (shake their pompoms toward the west)
Alumni:

Students: "GO"
Pom pom girls: (shake their pompoms toward the west)
Alumni: I'm going to the bathroom and see if I can find some hot chocolate.

Students: "GO"
Pom pom girls: (shake their pompoms toward the west)
Alumni: (???) I think they're talking to us. Oh crap, we're on. BEARS!

And it's even worse, because the mic men think it's a good time to start when the DJ is blasting and/or the Cal Band is playing.

One of the mic men turned whistleblower and shared that the DJ is apparently overplaying both Cal Band and the cheer squad (as the management actually turns down the mic men's speakers). All, apparently, to make it more of a sports experience than merely college.
"Just win, baby."

Bob Tuck was the best of all time Cal yell leader, because he was totally totally fearless, strong, and creative.

In 1970 he led the Cal students in a C A L I F O R N I A spellout, using one leg and one arm near top of the southeast flagpole, while holding onto to the pole with his other arm and leg. Always got a great response from the students. I challenge anyone to duplicate that stunt.

He did that on a number of occasions. The last time I saw him do that, which was in the late 70s, he pulled a can of beer out of his back pocket at the top of the flagpole, toasted the rooting section, then led the spellout before shimmying back down the light pole.

Ben Dixon also came up with, or made liberal use of the "OH YEAH!" cheer. IT had the stadium rocking like nothing I've seen since. Such lines as

Dixon: It's on the table!

Cheering section (everyone, really): OH YEAH!

Dixon: A blaaack label!

Everyone: OH YEAH!

Dixon: We got the class!

Everyone: OH YEAH!

Dixon: To kick their ass!

Everyone: OH YEAH!

The band would get behind it with the drummers and the place just went wild. The 'SC Band was drowned out with that the day Cal abused 'SC in '75. I wish I could remember the whole thing. I'd send it to the Rally committee.
