Just booked Hotel Shattuck for the first time in my life, surprised Friday night was still under $400 but college football derangement will do that

Here's a real zany idea, or not…

BearInsider builds a roped off section, or a plywood stage, with banner sign rooftop, and logged-in members, as shown on their phone, get to enter.

BI's first OFFICIAL MEET AND GREET

Dead center behind Kirk, Lee, et al.

BI needs some prominent presence in the crowd - advertising!!! I'm sure we can get first dibs on location access, right?

Well folks, I haven't missed college fall football like I have this year. Decided to take advantage of friends leading a 2-week bike trip in Slovenia. This then morphed into my wife then continuing with them on their 2-week Switzerland trip as the luggage van driver. Awesome, I had two weeks free in Germany. Can you say OKTOBERFEST!

Now enjoying a week in Madrid with our kid... which means NO GAME DAY FOR YOU!

Unreal. This is Rose Bowl-esque opportunity and I'm gonna miss it

I really cannot complain, but sure wish I was home for the big event.

Please attend and go nuts in my absence, ok?

GO BEARS!

Well, it's crazy that I am not. Long time Bear fanatic along with my dad. Quickly checked out airfare out of Long Beach (what happened to Jet Blue $49 each way?) and noticed Southwest would run nearly $400 if booking with a week less to go!. We used to drive during the JT years since we dragged the 3 kids and their friends along. No place to park. Worse than that, hotels that are close enough for walking to CMS are long ago booked and also $$$. Don't want to stay in Walnut Creek or Oakland/Emeryville. Added excuse, at 74 y/o now, I can't see getting up early and then waiting (pacing is a better word) for nearly 12 hours for kickoff. And the age requires Port-A-Potties.. I do have vivid memories of attending GD at Oregon in 2007 when we beat the Ducks but I was a younger version and we walked to Autzen. I will be looking out for you all and cheering from the LBZ. Go Bears!
Bring back bottled beer and cigars at CMS. Should get us back in the Rose Bowl!

I was at the last Miami home game. I'll be at this one, too. My son is flying up from San Diego for GameDay. Wouldn't miss it.

I'll be there. Leaving the South Bay at Zero Dark Thirty to watch Gameday, then back home, then back for the game in the evening.

Remember: Don't actually get there at 6 am (unless you want to get there late).

What time ya'll planning on getting there? I read that passing security and all could take 1-2 hours before show start (6am). Driving from Sac and wondering how early I need to leave
Cal Football. It just means more.

I was planning on getting there around 5:30am. Does anybody know if security is just to get into the "pit" area in front of the stage, or the general glade area?

I have no idea, BUT if the goal is to make sure there is no disruption (which they've largely been successful at), then the perimeter will probably extend beyond the glade. And since this is Berkeley, there probably will be extra security.

My wife and I were visiting our son in Salt Lake City last year on the weekend that College Gameday was there. It was 32 degrees at the beginning but we all bundled up and went. We got there around 15 minutes before it started and while we were not in front still had a decent vantage point partly because it was on a sloped area. Their booster group the Crimson Club had an area roped off and were providing coffee and donuts to contributors. It should be much warmer this week. I think I didn't end up not having enough water so I went to a nearby 7-11 and bought some. I noticed the store was selling quite a lot of beer for 8 or so in the morning The whole scene was fun. The band played during many of the TV breaks. Just a great college atmosphere.

We plan on going again this weekend with my brother and his kids.

This reminds me of (long ago, I won't say when, but the Joe Roth unis were standard) fraternity pledge class all-night hijinks and then, without sleep, going straight to a game at CMS. This time no hijinks and I'll get some sleep beforehand but I do plan on being there to lend my voice and be part of what I think will be a crazy, not-to-be-missed scene. LFG!!!

Channeling my 20-something energy and planning to be there. I've been watching this show since before they even started going to campuses - for over 30 years. It's hard to pass up the opportunity.

My ten year old wants to go, so I'll probably bring him, too.

I'm flying up with my wife and son, and I tried for hours to figure out reasonable logistics to get there for GameDay, but alas, it's not feasible. We'll get there mid-afternoon, have some Zachary's pizza, join the band at Sproul, and cheer loudly at the game.

But a little piece of me died when I realized I can't be there for the GameDay show. I'll have to live with watching it from home before heading to the airport.

i don't know when you should be there, but Gameday's Wikipedia page shows people lining up 6 hours before airtime.

For anyone getting there early enough On Friday, I'm might recommend this event. My vote for next AD, effective immediately.

We are staying at the Berkeley City Club the night before. We booked it long before GameDay was on the radar. Best place to stay in the world as far as I am concerned. The Julia Morgan pool is almost blinding in terms of its beauty. Free Peet's coffee. Beautiful library and loads of sitting areas. Plan to get there early on Friday to swim some laps.

It makes you feel like you are in a 1950s Hitchcock movie. Or if they built a big beautiful hotel designed after the theme of Doe Library's North reading room and Morrison library. So beautiful/

Plus, it is right next to campus so we will be there nice and early (free Peets is helpful in this area) to get loud for Cal!

Sadly, after 50 years of going to Cal games and confronting disappointment after disappointment, I feel 98% sure Miami is going to thump us. But there is still a 2% chance!!!

Yes, we have lots of alums who have been very successful in professional sports management and marketing, but only one who has been a 2X NFL Coach of the Year who could recruit to Cal and fire up the troops.

I would have just commuted from Pacific Heights but BART doesn't start until 6AM and trying to get an Uber at 4AM would have been goofy

This convinced me to drive from Santa Rosa Friday afternoon rather than getting up at 4 am on Saturday. I want to hear Ron Rivera and watch volleyball. I won't be spending much time in my hotel room, so I am going to try the Nash Hotel. It is inexpensive and near campus.

Go Bears!

Nightmare scenario: are we going to get shown up on our own campus by Miami fans? How well do they travel? That would be the absolute worst case, total backfire situation in terms of recruiting, national perception and confirmation that our fanbase stinks.

With what has been going on in Florida lately there may not be as many of them as you think (plus it's not a short trip either).

While no one here is ill-mannered enough to even ask if we can swim with you Friday afternoon or crash with you after the GameDay show, we really appreciate you inviting us to your Friday night party. 10 PM to 4 AM!! BYOB!

Folks, just ask at the front desk for Oski vs Everyone's room. Secret Password: GameDay! (note capitalizations and punctuation)

Not well, they don't pack their own stadium at all and didn't pack the Orange Bowl either
