Starting with the idiotic decision to go for 2 on the first score. We kill the momentum of a great drive by running a dumb play and having to chase points the whole game. And guess what? It bit us in the a**!!!!
This game should have been Mendoza's to try and win at the end. Dude was a baller the whole game despite getting knocked down every freakin play. But what do we do? Get conservative and play for FG position, take Mendoza off the field and put in Rogers for the predictable run.
Then put the game in the hands of a 50% kicker who has repeatedly demonstrated failure. Even if he makes it, Pitt has 2 minutes and kicker that hit from 58 earlier in the game.

This is an underrated part of the terrible strategy. There was too much time left to play for the FG. You needed to try to force Pitt to get a TD on their last drive.
Agreed. I would also add that it's time to move on from Ryan Coe. I've been cutting him a lot of slack and figuring he just needed to make some minor adjustments to get his kicks online. However, that FG attempt was a complete choke. He's clearly in his head at this point. I don't know much about our backup kicker, but he was highly touted and can't be any worse than Coe.
And no time outs at end of first half creating a tense no room for error drive that could have been relaxed. And then no deep balls.

Passing game is pretty good when we allow it to take the lead. If we get stuffed twice and then try to make it up by throwing on 3rd down, not so much. We lead going into the 4th qt. Wilcox brain freezes. He only wants the clock to run, run and run so we start running, running and running. Then we lose.

I'm sure it happens sometimes, but so what? Fernando was passing with good efficiency until the last desperation drive. You take your chances where you have to.
