11 points separate us from a perfect season so far. Penalties, bad coaching, poor decisions and a dreadful kicking game. Now we are looking for 4 more wins. I see possibly 3 wins (one would be against the Furds) the last game maybe a challenge to get.

A good kicking game would have made the rest irrelevant, because we would be undefeated.
we got lucky with the schedule generally and *very* lucky to play FSU on the road when they're this far down. we did enough through 3 quarters to win against a good but not great Miami team and could realistically have gone 10-2 or 11-1 from here but we would have been absolutely throttled in the playoff or a major bowl. we're not good! would have been a lot of fun but the letdown would have been brutal.
Meanwhile, Florida State is 1-6
Bears. Time to move on? We play today with a good chance for the team to do better and get a deserved win!. Isn't that enough? Go Bears!
Bring back bottled beer and cigars at CMS. Should get us back in the Rose Bowl!

The fact that we lost to a team no one else had problems with, including Duke with its first win ever, is not something to be proud of
so we are either the best team in the universe or the worst team in the universe. hot take: we're just mediocre, we're 3-3.

Had our kicker made the field goal in the Miami game, they'd have marched down the field and won the game with their record-tying kicker. Easily.
Nope, to put this season's failures on the kicker is wrong. The problems are far deeper and more serious than the kicking game.

You clearly didn't watch any of the games and you keep forgetting kicking field goals matters. Touchdowns are great and you still need to be able to hit field goals.
Hey, how many games have we lost this year because of missed field goals? Oh, that's right...all of them. Go watch the games again and pay attention to how many points we missed out on because we missed field goals.
You'd be a terrible football coach obsessing about only scoring touchdowns and forgetting that you need to have a good kicker to win close games.
Wilcox is at least aware that field goals exist, he just doesn't know how to help our kicker fix what's wrong. Kickers confidence must be in shambles by now.
Maybe we can get Adam Vinatieri's son whose warming the bench at Louisville.

The contradiction is that Wilcox slows the offense down to play for FGs, even when we have one of the worst FG% in the country or will be trotting out a true freshman for his first college kick with the game on the line.
Looking just at the football product I think the issue of why we are actually a 3-4 team is that the way the game is structured is that if you can not grind out first downs by running the ball at least 1/2 to 60% of the time (some high percentage short passes in there as well) you simply leave too much clock in a game where it is very possible to score quickly. Add in that (not cal) most P5 teams have FG kickers that are pretty automatic from within 45 and close games are really a crap shoot.
Add in that when we pass we put Nado's life at risk as well as big negative plays. 3 and out becomes the story.
BTW - this was the story with Sonny as well (and why it feels like a long slog for more than a decade). We could build a lead with the airraid but then couldn't start to play grind out.
Now contrast with how oregon has played for YEARS. They go lightening fast. Put up points and wear down defenses. But then when it becomes difficult to catch them they close out games by playing RPO and burning 40 seconds off close each and every play from scrimmage. It isn't surprising that Wilcox wants to do the same - but Oregon can go out and recruit OL that can do this AND has gotten RPO dual threat QBs for years. When you can have your QB hold the rock on the RPO read and pick up 4-5 yards it makes the game simple - and you can get 10 minute drives to close out the game.
