I have no idea if Wilcox will lose the team, but today he lost me for certain. The report card is as follows:
Gutlessness: the sheer lack of cajones he displayed at the end of the game, taking the ball out of our best player's (Mendoza) hand, is utterly beyond comprehension.
Terrible game day coach: he has absolutely no feel for what the crucial moments in a game call for -- none, zero, zilch, nada. There are too many example to count.
Abject stupidity: Wilcox/Bloesch insist on inserting this "Chandler Rogers Package" at ill-advised times, and the D knows what's coming. That's no knock on Rogers, he's does what's asked, but it's not fooling the D at all.
The inexplicable: going for 2 on the road after going up 6-0 early. Why? For what purpose? Because Oregon occasionally likes to do that? So the team ends up chasing points all day long and never gets back to breakeven.
Today's loss puts Wilcox's career coaching record at 39-45. But remove the 7 FCS-level wins during his tenure and his record against FBS opponents now stands at 32-45. I could handle it better if he went down swinging every time, but it's much harder to witness him turtling week in and week out.
