UCLA at UW (game with meaningful Cal Bowl implications)

Ok let's try this again guys

If you care at all about where cal goes bowling, it would be really really helpful for UCLA to beat UW.

First, it basically eliminates UW from bowl contention. And for UCLA to be bowl eligible, they would still have to beat either SC or FSU (no sure thing). And even if UCLA is bowl eligible, they aren't necessarily more attractive than Cal to bowl games. And the biggest thing is that it's highly unlikely that the LA bowl takes UCLA two years in a row.

Bottom line, a UCLA win could bump cal up a few notches on the bowl pecking order, but most importantly, it almost assuredly means that the absolute floor for cal is the LA bowl (assuming they get to 6 wins).

Now, you may not care what bowl cal goes to, but id argue that's misguided for a few reasons.

A better bowl and thus a better opponent (possibly even a marquee opponent if it's vegas) means way more visibility for the program. We need ratings people.

A better bowl can also energize the fan base. Leading to possibly more NIL dollars.

A better bowl also helps recruiting and will help drive momentum into the following year.

If you can't see the benefits of possibly playing Alabama or LSU in vegas compared to whoever in the gasparilla bowl, I don't know what to tell you. For a program that needs as much visibility it can get just to stay viable, I would think we can all agree that we need to go to as good as a bowl as possible.

Sorry, fUCLA. I don't want them to have any momentum.

And the Gronk bowl is trash - smack dab in the middle of finals week. That will be a total bummer zero energy bowl.

There are so many possible movements with three conferences determining the bowl order that I'm just going to root for whomever irregardless to Cal's bowl. It's not going to affect a championship or playoff.

You haven't been paying much attention, the bear runts have improved a lot over the last 3 weeks and if they win tonight they probably win out and a 7-5 flukela team would garner some strong interest from the aforementioned bowls.

Yes but, if UCLA wins out it effectively eliminates SC from bowl contention.
And SC even with just 6 wins is always going to be the bigger threat when it comes to bowl pecking order

Agreed - not to mention the recruiting impact it would have. USC can tear it down and build it up again year after year given their fanbase and money. We need UCLA to stink it up and suffer so recruits lose interest and so do their fans.

In a best-case scenario where Colorado makes the playoff along with Oregon and the remaining PAC-12 teams are Washington State (Alamo), Arizona State (Holiday/Sun/Vegas), and then us (ahead of 6-6 Washington/SC/flukela), we could bypass the LA Bowl but Holiday and Sun are ACC bowls, so we could get dropped because of those tie-ins, also the LA Bowl is the floor which would keep us from going back to Shreveport.

Root for whomever you want, but USC is the reason our Bears are one corrupt Florida court decision away from having no conference at all.

Then root for Nebraska to beat USC tomorrow.

Then you could root for USC to beat UCLA as long as the Trojans lose to Notre Dame to close out the season.

Those are the ugliest UW uniforms they've ever had, it's like a bad attempt at Oregon.

There actually aren't as many bowl movements as you think.

Also, UCLA winning creates a floor of the LA Bowl. That's the key here.

If you want chaos, then I guess root for SC and UW to both be bowl eligible. See how that works out for cal.

Being in the neighborhood, I really do not like UW and their entitled attitude. I don't like UCLA, but if I have to choose I pretty much take anyone over UW. If you haven't lived in the Seattle area you have no idea how arrogant their fans are and how much they believe they deserve to be better than everyone else.

Stupid penalty by UCLA. The hit didn't affect the throw and if he had let up, the interception would have stood. That is how you lose games.

Because bowl selections are almost solely based on tv ratings.

I mean, if cal gets to 7, sure. But wouldn't it be easier to just be sure?

It's ok, still got two more chances to avoid Shreveport. Nebraska/usc and UCLA/SC

Funny thing is, while Shreveport is an unappealing destination and the one visited last year, it would give our Bears a better chance to win this year than LA. Indy Bowl this year is on December 28. LA Bowl is on December 18, in the middle of the December 16-20 final exam week.
