Very unlikely we will beat SMU to beating Stanford is the only way we can get to six wins.

Stanford just beat a ranked Louisville team. Nothing is guaranteed with Wilcox but if he beats anyone, it is a home game against a team with a losing record that we are vastly more talented than.

Gotta win this it's the Big Game. So over Wilcox long ago but the importance of the Big Game lives on.

Our offense has: Jaydn Ott, Jaivian Thomas, Trond Grizzell, Nyziah Hunter, Kyion Grayes, Mason Starling, Mikey Matthews, Tobias Merriweather, Corey Dyches, and Jack Endries.

I know the OL is bad (maybe we should have someone coaching that area, but that's just me) but not being able to scheme up some kind of offense with that level of talent is just unacceptable. Wilcox is like Dykes, doesn't care about one side of the ball and will NEVER have competence on that side.

We don't deserve to go to a bowl.

I'm not at all a fan of Wilcox but I am a fan of achieving whatever is best to help out Cal's football program. Playing in as many bowl games helps achieve that result.

BTW, Syracuse's QB was ranked #5 in overall football stats before playing Cal and those stats showed Mendoza was ranked #20. Was really impressed with him. He's a sure pro.

Wish we could have the Syracuse head coach coaching Cal. Knows his stuff and seems like a cool guy.

He has personality, which is good for the college game and as a defensive guy, went out and got a good OC:

I hate to say it, but I hope we lose these last two games. Getting to a bowl, even the bottom of the barrel bowl we'd get with six wins, would in some small way validate Wilcox's year. We need to fail enough for our inept leadership to fire him.

I fear you are right. If we made a bowl at 6-6 (2-6) there would be apologists on this board crowing about "making a bowl two years in a row" and "player mistakes," "injuries" or "Cal" the reason poor (but great) Wilcox is not coaching in the CFP.

Welcome to the club! It's actually not bad as a fan; either we win and we get a (guilty) shot of dopamine, or we lose and Wilcox gets closer and closer to getting pushed out.

Most likely we get the worst of both worlds. We lose both and we're stuck watching another 4-6 win team stink it up next year with the worst coach in FBS

The team's performance on Sat raised questions of whether Wilcox has lost the team. Sure looked like it. If so, he's GOT to go, but we can't let Knowlton pick his successor - he'd pick the path of least resistance, least controversy and least effort on his part.

Please let the team know that too! The seniors especially need to know we have given up on them.
Bring back bottled beer and cigars at CMS. Should get us back in the Rose Bowl!

Yep, so lets throw the team under the bus after all their work and years in the program because you dislike Wilcox. Spoken truly by a person who doesn't care about the players themselves.

Brown was seen by many as the best off-season coaching promotion and hire (people who know something, not just message board types.)

Of course I care about the current players, but I care more about the program and the university, both of which will be healthier the sooner Wilcox and his staff get fired.

by that line of thinking a coach would never be fired. most if not all those players are paid more than most of us. they know what's going on and understand the environment in which they have chosen to operate.

Cal went to a bowl game last year and what did that do for the team exactly? And this year even if Cal does get eligible it would be to a meaningless bowl with hardly any attendance or viewers and possibly not even result in any financial gains. Big Game is basically the bowl game this year (again).

Maybe Cal can learn something from the links below as to hire the best new head coach we can and rely upon the new head coach's recruiting skills. Just watching what he does on the sidelines shows he's got the stuff to be a very good football coach.

On November 28, 2023, Brown was named the 31st head coach of Syracuse University.[13] His deep recruiting ties in South Jersey, one of Syracuse's primary recruiting grounds, were cited as a major reason for his hiring.[14][15] Currently, their 2025 recruiting class is ranked 14th overall according to 247Sports.

I agree with this. I want clarity. 5-7 will force Lyons and Knollton to either do something, or admit they don't really care, in which case I can stop investing the mental energy as well.

we talk about the offensive line being the reason for losing. look at what the other teams are scoring. it is our defense that is bad. 3rd and long and 4th down stops. what are those for this team. poor defensive calling by Sirmon. they are like Dr. Hyde and Mr. Jekyll . painfully badddd!! you can castigate me all you want, but for me it is my humble opinion. 60 years of watching Cal Football and donating small amounts every year with season tickets. But i guess i will still root for Cal and hope we get a better coach and team for the the future.

It's not that we've given up on them, it's that they seem to have given up on their head coach. Maybe they've even given up on themselves. They sure looked like it on Saturday. Just too many mistakes.

I think a 6-7 season should be sign enough for Lyons to take a good look at this. I can't get past a loss to Furd. Win that and we will get rolled by SMU.

There is no forward motion on this team. We will always be stuck in a 5-6 win season. If Wilcox had it, we would have already seen it.

I agree, but I want them to have no cover. There are no excuses you can make for this roster going 5-7. Most likely, I'll be giving up my season tickets, just going to games when the weather is good and I don't have anything better to do, and not worry about the outcome. I'm tired of suffering.

I watched the final two years of Holmoe from Tightwad, self-medicating and enjoying the beautiful view when the scene on the field got too ugly.

At 6-6, we will get an uninspiring bowl game filled with second stringers filling in for all the players not participating as they explore their future NIL options. Bleh.

1. It's Big Game Week. Anybody who wants Cal to lose this one, go down to Menlo and wear a Stanfurd Dollie outfit all week. Preferably the one with the white, knee-high boots. Then come up and wear it to the Big Game on Saturday.

2. Versus Cuse, it did sort of look like Wilcox had lost the team, except for we had just come off two straight wins and that's not usually when a coach loses a team..

3. If you want to know why Wilcox might return next season, it's the $15 million remaining on his buyout. If you got even $10 million to put towards that, I bet they could take it from there. For the record, I would thank you profusely.

Go Bears! Beat Stanfurd!
