it the only exciting part of the stadium experience yesterday. seriously, the stadium would've been dead silent because the product on the field was not good.

We could instead be entertained by our beloved Cal Marching Band as fans at Memorial were for generations but we now prefer to drench the crowd with the same canned music as everyone else which we spew from a bad sound system.

"Exciting"?? High volume <> excitement. It's just noise, completely disengaged from what's happening in the game.

Speaking of noise: the mic men have completely abandoned their mission statement -- leading the student section in cheers. The only thing we heard from them yesterday was when they got on the stadium mic to lead the entire crowd (or as they refer to us, 'MEMORIAL STADIUM!!!!") in a C-A-L or GoBearsOn3.

But then, it's hard to lead the students when they're back in their dorms. There were more Syracuse fans than Cal students present.

I will say two things. Not constantly playing like the OSU game, which wasn't the main issue. Volume level about 75% of the OSU game, which WAS the main issue.

I am not certain that is the case. For one game I sat directly across from the student section and we could see the mic men TRYING to get yells going, with some response from students in the lower seats. But when the PA system blared all their crap, you could only see movement. You could not hear ANYTHING and I know they were trying. Same happened with Cal Band. We could see they were playing a few times, but could not hear anything (including each other) over the DJ/PA.

So I'm not sure they've abandoned their mission. I think they, and the students, have simply given up trying to do anything because it wouldn't be heard or seen anyway. They are Cal students. They're smart enough to know the definition of insanity is trying to do something over and over and having it fail. Not their fault. It's the A.D.!!!!!

It is even worse in the seats I normally sit in.

If you continue to go to the games, you are endorsing this garbage.

Stop banging your head on the wall.

we sat in our seats on the east side next to the student section, and then for much of the second half we sat in a half dozen spots all around the stadium (except for the premium club seats)

Amazing how much different the sound was from every location (band, pipped in music, stadium announcer, fans)

Where I sit in East side section T I hear the fans the best, the music is a good volume, the stadium announcer is ok but a little muffled, and I can't even hear the band.

On the south end zone the band is loud and clear, the announcer is clear, but the fans aren't as loud, and music is ok

On the west side right next to the premium seats the band is clear, but the music is too loud and sounds like when you play music louder than the speakers can handle

I think everyone should try this during a game next year (it will be too crowded and difficult to try during Big Game)

More dissatisfied customers because of the too loud audio in this thread, too.
Hmmm.
I'm sensing a theme.

Especially in the post immediately above this one - under the broadcast booth, audio is horrible because of the echo effect.

This just feels like market research 101. Does Cal ever do capture surveys (where a person stops people before or after they enter the stadium) and asks a set of questions. Really you are literally ACROSS THE STREET from an analytically focused business school. Feels like it is a very good 2 semester project - develop and administer the instrument and then analyze the data to suggest changes that could result in an improvement in your net satisfaction score. Hell, make it a 1.5 year project by administering a post treatment instrument to see if it impacted things.

Irks me to no end that Cal has literally millions of dollars of free research capacity at its finger tips for the asking and isn't doing this sort of stuff.
