I have fond memory of the Rodgers-DeSean TD connection.

Lol, I know you're being sarcastic, but if AR stayed for his senior year, that 2005 team probably would've been one of the best college football teams of all time. It would've had AR throwing to Desean with Marshawn and JForse carrying the ball.

I'm not being sarcastic.

Quote from Pete Carrol:

"It's a terrific time to be here. It's a perfect time for the Pac-10 Conference to showcase a couple of teams that are playing well. We will continue to have these kinds of match ups, but this is awesome for us. Cal is playing great football right now. We have two top ten teams playing in the Coliseum with a giant crowd there. There is a really fun build up to this game. With what happened last year, it adds to it all. It brings more excitement. I think there is a chance for us to make this a Northern California vs. Southern California situation. This Cal team is well equipped. They have guys in all the right spots. They have big playmakers and an excellent quarterback that is playing lights-out football. The defense is playing solid. They have a tremendous amount of confidence. They will bring us a great day's of work. We are looking forward to the match up and hope that we can playing well and get what we want to get done."

The 2004 team had a Rose Bowl stolen from them. That said, the 2004 team's close loss to an SC team that was stacked with future NFL players is the highest quality football game I have ever had the pleasure to attend.

Go 2004 Bears!

That loss is one of my favorite socal trips of all time
I was there, I was so lucky to be at some of the best games Cal has had in my lifetime. I was there in 01 or 02 when we beat Washington after like 25 years of losing in Seattle. I was in LA in 04 for the best game ever vs SC, and I was at Oregon in 07 or 08 whenever Colvin fumbled over the over the goal line in Eugene, and I was at the Bowl game vs Va Tech in Phoenix heh. I suck at remembering the years (yeah I could look it up but I'm lazy hah). Following Cal football those years was so fun.

Haha. That win over Washington was the first of my life (yikes) and I remember stopping on the shoulder of 880 when the game ended to take a few minutes to process it. Being there must have been amazing.

Was the CMS Big Game attendance ever announced? Had to be close to 70,000.

With the remodel and tarped sections, it doesn't hold that many anymore. 52,000.

Listening to the Aaron Rodgers clip above...it would be awesome if we could find some way to get Tedford involved again. I wouldn't say as head coach as he doesn't know how to do that any way but 100% and to the detriment of his health, but the guy knows football. He also knows how to turn a program around and he is clearly beloved by many of his players.

Not sure if anyone else caught this, but when they introduced the 2004 team at the game, Coach Tedford was slowly working his way down the line of his former players, giving each of them high fives and/or bro hugs. When he got to Aaron Rodgers, they bro hugged it out, and just as Coach Tedford was moving on to the next player, Aaron reached over and gave Coach a pretty forceful attaboy pat on the derriere. Coach looked back with a rather surprised look -- I think Aaron might have forgotten that he still has a cannon for an arm.

In a "meaningful way" that will impact the program. I don't know if AD is plausible or not, but something impactful that can really utilize Tedford's proven ability to turbocharge moribund fb programs - especially offenses, but also with identifying the right coaches to run his other units (ST, Defense, etc) at a high level.

Does anyone know if Tedford would be willing to be a special consultant to Wilcox* and if Wilcox would offer him that position?

*This is assuming that Wilcox remains the HC next year since his buyout is still too high.

The 2003 Insight Bowl was a blast! Cal fans all over the place and celebrating all night. Virginia Tech was a great team then, and we 52-49 - huge amounts of points for teams of that era. It was at the baseball park and there were 42,000 fans there - huge for a bowl game. So many Cal people just thirsting for a drink at success. Tedford's first year we were bowl banned because of the Holmoecaust.

The remodeled CMS holds 63k and change. Tarps are over 4 sections, so should be only 6k less. I have no idea where the 52k as capacity comes from. I feel like it's all made up make it look like the stadium isn't as empty as a
percentage. But then they can't announce more than 52k and blow their cover.

There was a poster a while back who tallied every seat at CMS either by looking at the stadium maps online or walking the sections and counting. Would be illustrative to see that spreadsheet, but I doubt it's easy to find.

I found this on wikipedia hahahah, read the coaching section I am copy/pasting. Tosh showing up? heh

Playing career

As a player, Lupoi was a defensive lineman for Cal from 2000-05. He led the Bears' defensive line in tackles in 2003 and earned Pac-10 All-Academic recognition in 2005.
Coaching career

University of California, Berkeley

In 2008, Lupoi was hired as a defensive line coach at his alma mater, University of California, Berkeley. During his time as a Cal coach, Lupoi developed a reputation as an elite recruiter. In 2010, Lupoi was suspended for his role in instructing nose tackle Aaron Tipoti to fake an injury in a game against Oregon to try to slow down Oregon's fast, up-tempo offense. He left Cal amid controversy after he acted in bad faith by using his position as a Cal recruiter to convince elite recruits to commit to the University of Washington where he intended to become a coach.
Never forget.

Never forget that it was UW DC Justin Wilcox that hired him.
