As stated by someone else, it sounds like maybe a big payday demand? Or maybe he doesn't like school? Who knows.
Hunter is a starter with a potential NFL QB throwing to him in his draft eligible year.
Lots of other Portal Receivers looking for spots.
Good luck to him.
But Hunter and Sturdivant didn't do so well in their travels. Cal has multiple experienced receivers returning. Obviously I'd like it if he stays, but he's not irreplaceable in this era.
Who is this potential NFL QB we have coming in? We certainly don't have one on the roster LMAO, let's be serious.

He'll get a look. If Chase Garbers can make a roster, Nando could. I didn't say he was Tom Brady.
And the point is Hunter would be a starter next year with a proven 3,000 yard passer. Good luck on his decision.

Hunter had a breakout year, but we can weather 1-2 of our good WRs leaving. It's still a deep room.

Yes, who needs more talent when you can scrape by with less!
Please give to Cal Legends at https://calegends.com/calegendsdonate/donate-football/ and encourage everyone you know who loves Cal sports to do it too.

To be in the Top 1% of all NIL collectives we only need around 10% of alumni to give $300 per year. Please help spread the word. "If we don't broaden this base we're dead." - Sebastabear

Obviously, it's bad news. But every year now, for just about every team, some productive players leave. Better that this one is from one of our deeper positions.

What's important is, by the summer, have we made our roster better or are things going the wrong way? That's what was so frustrating about this past season: we probably improved our talent, but we couldn't take advantage of that, despite an easier schedule.

Or maybe it is a repeat of Mark Fox? He met the new OC and immediately put his name in the Portal?

Time will tell.

Um, is this narrative anywhere except this board? At Boise State, didn't they recruit at a pretty decent level for the league they were in?

According to BI posters, he recruits for shyte and his offense relies on superior talent, yet he wins 80% of his games. Lol.

No, I got my info from the AU Family board as well as some other stuff on reddit CFB board. Basically, they're saying that he was a bit aloof, had poor attitude and didn't recruit well.

As a head coach for his alma mater and home town in Boise Idaho and pre-portal.

Mark Fox won 50% of his games when he coached elsewhere. Here, because he was such a bad fit, he went 3-29, worst record in the country, especially for a power conference team, and worst in our history.

Again, if Harsin is the hire, there are ways we can mitigate the negatives. It would just be better to hire someone with more positives, including an innovative offense or an offense better suited to our personnel.

If he is the guy, if it is a confirmed done deal, I will post one more time about it. But if we can stop Wilcox from making another mistake, I will try, I will be persistent because I love Cal.

Oh wow, you really had the sources! So right, I don't want him as the Cal head coach either!!!
Oh wait, we have breaking news...Harsin is no longer being considered for the Cal HC position...it's now been confirmed he will only be the Offensive Coordinator at Cal. The BI board is now scurrying to find quotes about Mr. Harsin when he was doing the job that he is being considered for!! Stay tuned for updates as we get them....

My guess is that a bright, up and comer will not be willing to subordinate his O ability to someone who knows little about it other than, let's bleed clock in the 4th. And, is stubborn about it.

This thread is a conclusion looking for reasons.
Zero discussion about his time at Boise St, when we would have given our right testicle for him to come to Cal...
But I get it... this is hate Wilcox unconditionally.
I think it's a good hire .. maybe even pretty good. But I also think there is a good chance he is going to be so so because I don't believe there is enough talent, and I don't think Wilcox is running a program that is going to change all that quickly.
There is going to be nothing on this board but frustration until Wilcox is gone.... let's get real.
philly1121
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No, not necessarily. Keep in mind that while he was at Boise, no P12 team offered him despite getting interviews. Not one. So it begs the question as to why?

It could be a good hire. Maybe he is only capable of being an offensive coordinator? I don't know. I do remember reading that Bo Nix transferred because of Harsin.

We all know how this is gonna go, right? Harsin comes in. Wilcox see's out his contract and then Harsin takes over.

I think the main complaint for the Harsin hire, is that after "suffering" 3 mid years under Malzahn, which many supporters say held the program back, it was the Harsin hire that supporters say sunk the program. And they've been trying to build back since 2017, their last double digit win season.

Either way this works out okay. If we have a good season, everybody's happy. If we have a bad season, Wilcox gets canned and a new coach brings in his own OC.

Well sure, it is a vague hope that there are people on this board like you who appear to be insiders, close to the program, or journalists that read these boards, that might consider my reasoning and put pressure on the coach or the administration to not make another mistake or convince them to seize an opportunity, make a positive adjustment. It is how "fan, booster and the press pressure" works elsewhere.

Are you saying Wilcox has carte Blanche? He can just give $millions of university dollars to his friends with no due diligence or oversight? I thought he wanted to hire Tosh at one point and got blowback so it didn't happen?

You don't think fan concerns about Baldwin, Musgrave and now Bloesch didn't get them eventually fired or demoted? From your perspective it is just Wilcox making decisions in isolation? Because the impression he gives is he would never fire anyone if he didn't have to.

You're off base with that assumption.
Nix left Auburn not specifically because of Harsin. One quote (the only one anyone has produced) stated he was miserable at Auburn, and it was a long developing situation. He had been miserable under Malzahn and taking all kinds of heat for Auburn's losing and his play for 3 years. He wanted out of Auburn, which growing up was his family dream school. Never did he say it was Harsin that made him leave.
He is quite friendly with Harsin. If you haven't seen the picture of him in the Oregon locker room last year with Harsin and Harsin's son arm in arm, I think you'll realize they have a very good relationship. That was a story line to blame Harsin for everything they couldn't blame on Malzahn anymore. That one quote was completely out of context.
