ACC title came down to a 50+ yard field goal as time expired

If you still don't get it, a dedicated Special Teams Coach is an absolute necessity. There are no limits to how many coaches a team can have, so there's no excuse for not having one

If Wilcox refuses to hire a dedicated Special Teams Coach then he should be fired. Is negligence grounds to dismiss Wilcox and erase his buyout?

Please give to Cal Legends at https://calegends.com/calegendsdonate/donate-football/ and encourage everyone you know who loves Cal sports to do it too.

To be in the Top 1% of all NIL collectives we only need around 10% of alumni to give $300 per year. Please help spread the word. "If we don't broaden this base we're dead." - Sebastabear

Thanks for reading my sig! Please consider copying or adapting it and using it on all of your posts too. Go Bears!

Yes he could have won us a couple more games this year straight up. And knowing he is a reliable conversion within 45 makes your play calling more aggressive, no?

No. Incompetence is no relief. Especially when you extended the contract.

Cal should look to hire Pete Alomar from Rice. He the Cal's ST Coach under Tedford. He was also a ST coach at Stanford. Another option I like Is James Shibest from UNLV. The UNLV coach Odoms just became the HC at Purdue. They are both very good ST's coaches.

I remember when people on this Board called for Tedford to fire Alomar.

"Fire Alamar" is part of Bearinsider lore.

Alamar is just another coach or AD that was fired from Cal only to find tons of success elsewhere.

It really shows you how bad things are that the worst assistant coaches from Tedford's tenure look great by comparison to what we have now.

A bad special teams coach is better than no special teams coach

These coaches left Cal and had tons of success, just like Dykes and AD Sandy Barbour.

We called for Tedford to fire all his assistants except Tosh. And thats how JT lost control of the team.

I do not recall it that way. In particular I recall that we liked and respected DC Clancy Pendergast and RB coach Ron Gould. I think there were others as well.

I have the same recollections.

You missed calling for the ST coaches head? Or the DC's head Gregory? And the OL coach head? The one coordinator who left that I don't know about was OC Cortez (sp?) I was surprised when he left and I don't recall he jumped to a big opportunity. And most of those assistant coaches who left came back to haunt us with greater success than what they accomplished at Cal.

Didn't Cortez leaving coincide with Tedford wanting to bring in the OC from Northwestern to install the spread in 2006? Total misuse of our personnel which with Marshawn, Desean, Longshore, Hawkins, great TEs and FBs and a great OL was prototypical for an
Al Davis, power running with Marshawn, play action deep bomb to Desean offense. I don't think the OC lasted long after but it lead to Tedford's play card expanding and calling his offense "multiple."

No, I specifically posted about how people called for Pete Alamar to be fired. He went on to a great career at Stanford.

Yes, people called for Gregory's head after his "bend but don't break" defense was exposed by Texas Tech in the Holiday Bowl. I was talking about his successor Clancy Pendergast who did a great job at Cal and then at SC.

Yes, and Pete Dunbar lasted only one season. Then we had a carousel of OCs such as Andy Ludwig, Frank Cignetti Jr, and Jim Michalczik as Tedford seemed to lose his way.
