UCLA athletic director Martin Jarmond will make up to $2.1 million under new contract

The contract, signed in May by recently departed chancellor Gene Block, took effect July 1 and superseded his previous contract that was set to expire in the summer of 2026. As part of his new contract, Jarmond will receive $1.55 million in Year 1, $1.6 million in Year 2, $1.8 million in Year 3, $2 million in Year 4 and $2.1 million in Year 5.

Those amounts in the first two years represent significant raises over the $1.25 million Jarmond was set to make this year and the $1.31 million he was set to make in 2025-26 under his previous contract.

Block did a terrible job handling the campus protests, blew up the Pac-12, reupped Chip Kelly only for him to leave UCLA for an OC job, and then handed his MID AD a new contract on his way out the door.

I have to believe that Lyons will do a much better job at Cal.

He was successful in getting them to the Bug 10 and between 60 and 100 million per year in TV revenue. Cheap out on the football now - who cares… they got money.

I was with you until the last sentence. I have seen no tangible evidence that Lyons will do a better job than Block.

Yeah, I doubt the chancellor cares about the demise of the PAC-12 and his B1G connections were instrumental in getting them into the B1G and a huge increase in revenue over what UCLA was going to receive in the PAC-12. Permanently. Everything else is a short run issue. Foster is essentially an interim hire because Chip Kelly quit. Jarmond was smart enough to keep the salary and buyout low, mitigating the risk.

None of my friends and family who went to UCLA are happy with Jarmond. I can't argue with the B1G revenue bump for UCLA, but they are not happy with the way he handled Chip Kelly. Jarmond extended his contract twice when it was clear Chip didn't recruit, interact with alumni and boosters and engage the fans.
