Competition, they are moving to fbs and have nil war chest of 50 million

They will recruit well in the central valley

Still will be riding it out in a MWC or hollowed-out PAC-12, and Sacramento is more interesting than Fresno, but that's it

Michael Vick talking with them as potential coach

To be clear, it is all talk as of now. They play football in a 21000 seat erector set stadium and play basketball in a 1000 seat gym. Their only good time in football was with Troy Taylor for 3 years and are now back to normal with a losing record. Basketball is normally a bottom dweller too.

Suppose they were to move their home games to the A's/Rivercats baseball stadium (with a fb conversion)?

UC Davis will follow soon given they are rivals. When the Pac12 collapse happened I thought one plan was for working with Sac State, UC Davis, SDSU, and FSU. With Cal, furd, OSU, and WSU you got something better than Mountain West. Add the Nevada schools too.

NCAA needs less FBS schools, not more.

The Rivercats ballpark is only 11,000 and I don't think it could be configured for football easily,
not to mention it is 8 miles from campus.

In other words, they're kind of like us.

Although Sutter Health Park is going through renovations to accommodate the A's, which includes a capacity increase, there are zero plans for it to be used as a home for Sac St football. Sac St will eventually build a new stadium on campus. I get the idea of a splash hiring with Vick's name being thrown around, but it would be the worst thing they could do to hire that unrepentant POS with no coaching experience. He's not PrimeTime 2.0, and the negative baggage is way too much. Unlike Cal, Sac St finally has the administration and backers to take the program to another level be it MWC or Pac12. The Pac12 is a stretch. UC Davis is moving all sports except football (for now) to the MWC and I could see Sac St doing the same soon which would be a logical step. Although, there are rumors of a rift between Sac St and the MWC, so who knows.

Just curious to see it play out being a Bear and Hornet fan.

Rae Caruth as OC with Kellen Winslow as TE and Henry Ruggs as WR Coach. OJ Simpson RB coach with Ray Lewis as DC/LB and Alonzo Spellman DL and Adam Jones handling DB duties.

Anyone who would do dog fighting likely had a terrible if not violent and abusive upbringing. It doesn't excuse it but it likely explains it and it just makes me feel bad for him as a little guy, and of course for the dogs. He served time, he did a bunch of community service and animal rights stuff too, I believe. You can't erase the past and I don't know if he has, or will ever have, atoned for his misdeeds, but I feel like he's an easy target and probably was as a kid, too, for an angry mom, brother, uncle or dad. This stuff is easy humor, but ultimately just very sad. I hope he truly feels sorry for what he did and can find peace.

Check out the book "The Lost Dogs" by Jim Gorant which contains stories from the folks who adopted some of the broken dogs lucky enough to live through Vick's hell. Apparently, Vick had to be forced to pay the court-ordered restitution money intended for the costly care for his dogs. If Vick had shown any interest in the welfare of those dogs after they were rescued (he didn't), or if he had used some of his millions to help the everyday people who went into debt to give his dogs homes and make them whole again (he did not), I might believe in his story of redemption. Vick personally ordered the killing of 'loser dogs' and participated in their drowning, slamming, hanging, and electrocution. The extreme depravity of those acts offers the probability that true remorse might not even be possible. He may have grown up with this barbarism, but it doesn't mean you have to continue what any semi-reasonable and coherent person knows is very wrong. Frankly, his public remorse was nothing but a show to get back to making millions from football.

Off my soapbox…..

Watch out Sac State with Marion! There is *a lot* of overlooked football talent from mid Central Valley to Oregon. Skattebo was a Sac State > ASU Transfer that was unrated coming out of an area high school and is now first team All American RB.

With so much instability and upheaval in the college game currently, with a few big winners and many programs on life-support, it is either a really bad time to move to the fbs, or it is a brilliant move. I can't tell.

AD Orr hired a gypsy BBall coach who brought in mercenaries, had modest success, bounced, and now they're in shambles.

Seems to me the Sac St. sports weirdness starts above Orr with the President who established the "Combat U" program which, quoted from the Sac St website "will provide an entry point for students seeking a world-class education and high-level combat sports training and competition opportunities." Great, let's educate kids while training them to beat their brains out. I know, the same could be said about football, couldn't it? Fortunately, the "Combat U" link leads to a blank page.

This President is the same guy who is banging the drum to move Sac St up to FBS level. Good luck with that.

What message does it send to meet w Michael Vick?

Supposedly some teams will share the new "The Well" IM facility.

Sac State is not fooling around.

The FB team uses some of that NIL to go get Georgia QB Jaden Rashada

Then the MBB team brings on Shaq as their GM

Why can't we be more like Sac State?!?!

Sources - Shaquille O'Neal agrees to be Sacramento State's GM - ESPN

They have no internal conflicts over what it means to be good at football like we do. More power to them.
