Why wasn't an ineligible man downfield penalty called on the fake punt. There was a forward pass and the linemen were downfield.

No penalty for ineligible man downfield because the pass was completed behind the line of scrimmage.

I think the ball was snapped from about the UNLV 39 or 40, and the guy who caught it did so around the 37.

This is way too logical an explanation aka the correct one.
In this day and age it's easier to believe bankrupt convicted felons are morally superior human beings; just like it's easier to believe in referee conspiracy theories than it is to confront the reality of a dog doo doo coaching staff.

The guy who caught it purposefully ran diagonal behind the line of scrimmage, you can see based on where he planted his feet when he caught the ball. It was an awesome play.

Since I didn't watch the game I don't know the play you're talking about, but generally back when Chip Kelly was at Oregon they changed how they call offensive lineman downfield..it was a absolutely horrible change that made college football worse. For a long time they were letting lineman get like 8 yards downfield on pass plays and it made it impossible to defend against unless you were just physically dominant like an Alabama. I think right now they're letting them get 5 yards downfield now, it's dumb but the NCAA signaled they really don't care about the game at all.

The NFL does not allow this. They still require lineman to be behind the LOS on pass plays. Also in both college and NFL on plays where the ball is thrown behind the LOS, the lineman can go downfield as far as he wants.

Are you sure the pass was behind the line of scrimmage? Didn't look that way from the stands but i haven't seen a replay.

The pass was definitely caught behind the line of scrimmage. Beautiful execution by unlv.

LOS is the 38 on this play, receiver catches the ball at the 36/37 but clearly behind the LOS. That's what I see. Looks completely legal for me, the line can go downfield..

ssentially a screen pass. I assume the blown assignment is on the Corner (#6) whose job is to stick with the "gunner". Since he has "covered up" the guy ont he line he eligible (and the guy #6 bites on) is not eligible.

The more I watch the tape the less I am impressed with them and the worse I feel about basic football on our part - #6 blows that play completely up if he stick with his guy.

Our brilliant HC clearly doesn't think Cal's special teams has any problems, after all, he doesn't believe in hiring anyone to coach them. Surely, after 8 years, he knows what he's doing. /s

It's 3 yards in the NCAA, and for the first time ever they're enforcing it. It's an ironic thing to say they don't care about the the game when what's literally happening is the opposite of what you're complaining about.

It should be 0 yards. These dumb concepts with dual run/pass options would not exist.
