Thanks for the clarification. I thought the message from FM to JKS was more of "in my honest opinion, i think it will be better for your future if you signed with Oregon". But according to your post, it sounds like the message was more "if you come to Cal, we will not accept you". This is even worse.

What's worse is that the guy who did all of this then turned around and left Cal.

Someone on Reddit who may not know anything at all suggested it was more along the lines of "don't get any ideas about taking my qb1 job." Not sure if that is true but it makes sense, and even if it was just kind of like a joking thing said in passing (and I do want to believe that's all it was)…an innocent good luck call, welcome to Cal, but don't get any big ideas, that sort of thing, I could easily see how that would be a huge turnoff for a recruit, especially a high school recruit with a huge bird in one hand at Oregon. It doesn't matter. He sat out the smu game. It really hurt the team, and it destroyed the faith and trust so many of us had in him. I think he'll learn from this and would guess he'd tell you it was a huge mistake which he regrets. Maybe not. Maybe he's just a dick and was all along, but that's a hell of a long con. I think he just messed up and it was too big and too late to fix, so it is what it is. Kind of like infidelity. No matter what, we need to look forward. It's over. We've parted ways.

If JKS were scared of competition or not being "the man", why in the world would he have flipped to an Oregon program with a 5 star QB waiting in the wings, a 4 star backup, a potential 5 star incoming recruit in Jonas Williams, and are the favorite for the #1 QB in 2026(by his own words)??

Can't believe people still question the facts as laid out by 4th Gen. My kid called FM out on X knowing folks would attack him not because he left but the way he did and behaved. Truly unbecoming of a true Golden Bear. Compare that to Ott for example: He is a true Golden Bear.

Either JKS is going to bring it big time or he made a big mistake going to Oregon.

I completely believe 4thGen - he always drops 100% truthful knowledge on us.

The only thing I can't square - once FM decided to leave for Indiana, why wouldn't JKS flip back here and be our starting QB next season?

Because Mendoza left after NSD. I believe his traitorous call to JKS was the night before signing day, and Mendoza left Cal the day after signing day.

What I find interesting (not in a good way) is that JKS knew a new OC was coming, so nothing Mendoza said about that would matter. Therefore, to influence, Mendoza had to talk about either Wilcox, Cal Athletics (like the NiL program) or the university as a whole to matter...or some combination...sad

No, he basically said that this is my team, not yours, and made JKS feel unwelcome.
